I was fortunate enough to get a new part-time job that I really wanted this semester: acting for the Law School. What you might ask , does the Law School need an actress for?

Under the supervision of their professors, law students begin to accept cases while still at school. Their lack of experience dealing with law procedures and clients (客户) makes many of them anxious. So in order to prepare them for the real work environment, they need simulations (模拟).

In one case, my job is to play a 16-year-old girl from a troubled family. My mum is on drugs. My dad was locked up in prison a long time ago. My sister is trying to raise her two kids. And finally, my brother just got arrested.

Government social workers want to take me away from my family and put me into state custody (监护). They are now charging my mum with child neglect. But I do not want to leave home, despite what others think of my family.

So in the first simulation, I met my lawyers, who are in fact still law students. I was supposed to play this really tough character. At the beginning, it was hard. I kept being too polite, especially when my poor lawyers looked nervous and lost.

But after a while, I ignored the helpless looks from my lawyers, I started to challenge them with my bad temper, distrust, and disregard for the legal process.

After the simulation, the professor asked me to discuss the students' performance with them. I gave them some advice, and they all commented on how good an actress I was. They were pretty scared by me!

This was a wonderful experience. I love acting. Unlike theatre work, it doesn't take up too much time. I don't have to remember lines or go to rehearsals (排演). I am given freedom to define my character and interact with other participants any way I want to.

56. What does the second paragraph mainly deal with?

A. Why does the law school need an actress?

B. What does an actress do?

C. Why do the law students lack experience? D. How do they train law students?

57. Which of the following is true of the author?

A. She has a troubled family. B. She is a college student.

C. Her mother is a drug addict. D. She is an actress in a theater.

58. The underlined word "charging" here means _____.

A. rushing forward B. asking as a price

C. putting a charge into D. accusing sb of sth in a court of law

59. The law students were ____ my performance.

A. anxious about B. satisfied with C. worried about D. disappointed at
