表示推测的情态动词、形容词和副词

1．在英语中，有些情态动词可以用来表示“推测”，如must, can, could, may, might等。它们用在句中表推测时，没有时态的区别，只有语气强弱之分。might和could在表示推测时不表示时态，其表示的可能性不如may和can大； must意为“肯定，一定”，可能性最大； can意为“可能”，可能性比could大； may意为“也许，可能”，可能性比might大。

He must be at home.他肯定在家。

He can't be at home.他不可能在家。

He could be at home.他可能在家。

He may be at home.他也许在家。

He might be at home.他或许在家。

2.除了情态动词可以表示推测外，一些形容词和副词也可以用来表示推测，如：possible, probably, perhaps, maybe等，其中perhaps和maybe多置于句首。常见的句式有“It is possible to do sth.”，“It is possible that…”，“主语＋will probably/possibly do sth.”等。

It's possible that it will be snowy.

有可能会下雪。

It's possible to swim across the river.

游过这条河是有可能的。

It will probably/possibly be cold and wet.

也许天气会又冷又潮。

Maybe we can ask for some help.

或许我们可以寻求一些帮助。
