学校特色和荣誉

学校一直致力于文理学院的基础教学，开设了80多个本科专业，同时设有教学硕士（master of arts in teaching）。其中最大的几大院系分别是生物、经济学、心理学和社会学。另外，学校也开设了健康科学（牙医、医学、动物医学等）和法律专业。学校也提供工程专业的3+2合作项目，在科罗拉多大学攻读三年后，再前往合作院校的工程学院攻读两年，最后可以获得两个学校颁发的学士学位。

科罗拉多的教学特色是实行block plan，此项教学模式始于1970年。每一学年被分为8个block,每个block时间为三个半星期。学生在每三个半星期集中学习一门课程。这样，学生就有更多的时间在实验室做实验、做研究和深入学习。如果是夏季课程，每门课程的学习时间为三个星期。不过有的课程为期一个block,有的则为期2个block或者更长，根据每门课程的要求而不同。同样的，学校的教授每三个半星期内只教授一门课程。每门课的学生人数一般不超过25人（不超过32人如果配备两名教授）。

历史及发展历程

1871年，the Denver and Rio Grande铁路的建设者William Jackson Palmer在新铁路沿线创建了新城市Colorado Springs，同时他在1984年出资建立了科罗拉多学院，两年后科罗拉多成为独立的州。学校的第一个学士学位颁发于1882年。在校长William F. Slocum（任职时期1888 t至1917）的带领下，校园逐步完善，其风貌一直保持到20世纪50年代。在此期间，学院的学术水平不断突破，逐渐成熟，并在1904年加入了Phi Beta Kappa。 20世纪50年后，校园重建，新建了教学楼、学生宿舍、图书馆、研究中心、活动中心以及体育设施等。21世纪初期校园设施进一步完善。校区位于Colorado springs市区，占地面积90亩，离Colorado 首府Denver 约1个小时车程。 与此同时，学校的学术能力也取得了突飞猛进的发展，开设了许多特色专业，例如：西南研究、女权主义和性别研究、亚洲研究、生化科学、环境科学、神经系统学、拉丁美洲研究、俄罗斯研究、美国文化研究以及丰富的夏季课程等。

校园生活

科罗拉多学院实行住校制度，学生被要求在头三年时间内住校。大多数住宿楼是男女混合住宿，男女生有分开的洗浴设施，也有男女生单独的住宿楼，是以不同语言和主题划分的。高年级学生可以选择入住新的学生公寓楼。公寓楼的房间分为1人至6人不等。 校内有一个餐厅、一个零食店和一个咖啡店。校内饮食也能满足素食者的需求。校内住宿能使学生之间更好地交流思想、增进友谊，因此也成为科罗拉多校园生活的重要组成部分。

科罗拉多学院的Block Plan学制和所处地区为在校学生提供了大量的体育活动机会。学校75%的学生都热衷于某一项体育活动。最受欢迎的活动包括垒球、飞盘、足球、冰上曲棍球。体育俱乐部有女子足球、曲棍球、男女冰上曲棍球，舞蹈、自行车等。学校也开设很多户外运动，例如登山和滑雪，地点位于学校附近近50座山脉。

健康保健

学校里设有一处健康中心，为学社个提供预防性药物并为那种不需要住院的疾病提供治疗。学生只需要支付很少量的费用就可获得健康中心的服务。如果是重大疾病，则会转到当地的医院就诊。学校为每位学生购买医疗保险，保险费用约为$1035一年。
