TheTowerofPisaisoneofthemostbeautifulbelltowersinItaly.Itisnotonlybeautiful,butalsostrange—itleanstooneside.Todayitisknownas“TheLeaningTowerofPisa”.Thebuildingofthetowerbeganin1173.Ittooknearly200yearstocomplete.In1178,whenthebuildinggottothirdfloor,itstartedtolean.
Thebuilderstriedtomakethetowerstraightagainwhentheybuilttheupperfloors,butfailed.Overtheyears,thetowerhascontinuedtoleanfurther.Expertshavedonealotofstudiesandtriedto“rescue”thetower.In1990,itwasclosedtothepublicforsafetyreasons.
Afteralotofeffort,itreopenedin2001.Hopefullyitwillbesafeforatleastthenext300years.
