8. Criteria and principles of translation
翻译标准是翻译活动必须遵循的准绳，是衡量译文质量的尺度，也是翻译工作者应该努力达到的目标。
1898年严复《天演论》“信、达、雅”标准
1935年鲁迅《题未定草》“凡翻译，须兼顾两面，一当然力求其易解，一则保存着原作的丰姿”
1951年傅雷在《高老头·重译本序》中提出的“神似”说——“以效果而论，翻译应当像临画一样，所求的不在形似而在神似”；
Criteria and principles of translation
1964年钱钟书在《林纾的翻译》一文中提出“化境”说。
引证得最多的是等值标准和等效标准。等值标准不但要求译文与原文思想内容等值，而且要求语言形式上的等值。等效标准所追求的目标是；译文读者能和原文读者同样顺利地获得相同或基本相同的信息，包括原文精神、具体事实、意境风格等。
