It is always difficult when we are exposed to someone who has a different opinion than our own. When opinions differ, there is often a conflict. This is where much of the conflict with adults and teens begins. Therefore, it is important to always make the difference clear between fact and opinion. Opinions change, facts always remain the same.

I have found that it does absolutely no good to tell someone they' re wrong. I have found that to be more effective is to help someone see the consequences of their behavior for themselves. If you don't know there is the cliff, why would you ever be concerned about being close to the edge?

I dealt with a teen today who was involved in some gangster (歹徒) activities. This girl was raised in a good home with concerned parents. However, other interests have taken over in her life. Friends have become everything. These friends come from different families with different values. This is where the conflict has appeared in her life. The challenge for the rest of us is helping this girl see how and where her new interests will take her. We have felt mild success as relationships of trust are built and improved.

In the end, however, the teen has to make a choice regarding this conflict. It is important for adults to remember how serous this choice is. For some this can feel like a choice between life and death. It's easy for the rest of us to be casual about this because the right choice seems so obvious to us. It is important to know it is much different to this young person who is still developing and searching. Therefore, it is important that the adult should do everything possible to help the teen be fully informed about the choice before them. Provide choices and show how making different choices will improve things and provide security for the teen now and in the future.

The choice to go with the crowd or with the few can be a very difficult one to make. I believe it is absolutely essential that we never give up on these kids. Our very own future is absolutely at key point any time we advise and guide the youth.

40.From paragraph I we know the gap between father and son lies in that______.

A. facts always remain the same

B. opinions are always different from facts

C. different opinions result from their conflict

D. they have a disagreement about the same fact

41.What contributes to the girl's crime according to the text?

A. Different values. B. Unconcerned parents.

C. Her poor family. D. Gangster activities

42. Adults should try their best to help teens make a choice regarding the conflict because_______.

A. the wrong choice will lead to complete failure in the future

B. the choice is difficult to make for still developing teens

C. the right choice is easy for adults to see and understand

D. the choice made by teens determines their life or death

43. Why should the adult never stop helping the teen according to the last paragraph?

A. Because the teen won't give up themselves.

B. Because the adults' future depends on the youth.

C. Because the adult can give advice and guidance.

D. Because the teen's future is in danger.

44. It can be inferred from the text that_____.

A. showing the results of their behavior is a good way to help people

B. helping teenagers always means meeting trouble,

C. it's quite easy to keep a good relationship with others

D. it's hard to make wise choices in our life

C

I'm a storyteller, And I would like to tell you a few personal stories.

I grew up reading British and American children's books. When, I began to write, I wrote exactly the kinds of stories I was reading: All my characters were white and blue- eyed, they ate apples and talked a lot about the weather, despite the fact that I lived in Nigeria. We ate mangoes, and we never talked about the weather. Because all I had read were books in which characters were foreign, I had become convinced that books by their very nature had to have foreigners in them. Things changed when I discovered African books. Because of writers like Chinua Achebe and Camara Laye, I went through a mental shift in my idea of literature. I realized that people like me, girls with skin the color of chocolate, could also exist in literature. I started to write about things I recognized. So what the discovery of African writers did for me was this: It saved me from having a single story of what books are.

The year I turned eight, we got a new house boy Fide from a nearby rural village. The only thing my mother told us about him was that his family was very poor. And when I didn't finish my dinner, my mother would say, "Finish your food! Don't you know? People like Fide's. family have nothing." So I felt enormous pity for Fide's family. Then one Saturday, we went to his village to visit, and his mother showed us a beautifully patterned basket that his brother had. made. I was astonished. It had, not occurred to me that anybody in his family could actually make something. Their poverty was my single story of them.

Years later, when 1 left Nigeria to go to university in the United States, my American roommate asked where I had learned to speak English so well, and was confused when I said that Nigeria happened to have English as its official language. What struck me was this: ,She had felt sorry for me even before she saw me. My roommate had a single story of Africa: a single story of catastrophe,

Of course, Africa is a continent full of catastrophes. But there are other stories, that are not about catastrophe, and it is very important, it is just as important, to talk about them. The consequence of the single story is this: It robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different rather, than how we are similar.

So what if my mother had told us that Fide's family was poor and hardworking? What if we had an African television network that broadcast diverse African stories all over the world? What if my roommate knew about my Nigerian publisher, Muhtar Bakare, a remarkable man who let his job in a bank to follow his dream and start a publishing house? What if my roommate knew about my friend Funmi Iyanda, a fearless woman who hosts a TV show, and is determined to tell the stories that we prefer to forget?

My Nigerian publisher and I have just started a non-profit called Farafina Trust, and we have big dreams of building libraries and providing books for state schools, and also of organizing lots of workshops in reading and writing, for all the people who are eager to tell our many stories.

Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity. When we realize that there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise.

45. What is probably people's first impression of the writer when it comes to her nationality?

A. She mainly eats apples and mangoes.

B. She may not speak fluent English.

C. She comes from a place free of catastrophes.

D. She prefers stories .based on. foreign characters.

46. .. The underlined phrase "a mental shift" in Paragraph 2 refers to the writer's_____.

A. discovery of African books with characters of her skin color

B. acquaintance with local African writers like Chinua Achebe

C. realization that not only foreign characters exist in literature

D. change that she started to write about things she recognized

47. How many personal stories has the writer mentioned in ,the passage?

A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.

48. The writer uses several single stories in the passage to illustrate that the single story_____.

A. matters in keeping listeners well informed

B. tends to convey a prejudiced idea to listeners

C. gets increasingly popular among story tellers

D. fails to produce a lasting effect on listeners

49. The writer lists many "what ifs" in Paragraph 6 to________,

A. emphasize our differences rather than similarities

B. indicate the way that stories are used to break dignity

C. show the hardship of recognizing our equal humanity

D. stress the importance of telling diverse, balanced stories

50. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?

A. The danger of the single story

B. The importance of telling stories.

C. The single stories that matter

D. Stories that can repair broken dignity

D

Why are people interested in eating. raw foods or whole foods? One reason is that eating these types of food reduces the risk of acid accumulation in your body.

Raw and whole foods are usually digested more efficiently than cooked and refined foods. When we cook foods, we destroy the natural enzymes()that are part of the food in its raw form. These enzymes were intended by nature to help us digest the food. When we consume food without these natural enzymes, our bodies either digest the food improperly or allow too many nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream. In both instances, the result is obesity.

When too many nutrients are absorbed at once, the body grows fat. Improperly digested food moves slowly through the digestive tract, where it becomes increasingly acidic (酸性的). To protect its vital organs from this acidic waste, the body changes the acid into fat and stores it safely away from the organs.

Processed foods contain chemical elements, which might confuse the appetite mechanism that tells us when we've had enough to. eat; as a result, people often overeat . Processed foods also upset the digestive cycle. The body will either identify these foods as allergens and then store them safely away from the organs as fat, or the remains of undigested food: will become acidic and enter the bloodstream as acid waste, which will stick to the blood vessel walls and block the passage of vital oxygen and nutrients heading for the body's cells. The body's metabolism(新陈代谢) becomes inactive, and then result is weight gain and obesity.

The accumulation of acid in the digestive tract makes digestion increasingly inefficient. When that happens, even healthy foods can become acidic and the food allergies will become more common.

To stop this vicious(恶性的) circle in its tracks, people need to consume food and supplements that will neutralize- (使... 中和) the acid already accumulated in body. Eating the right types of raw and whole foods can help. It's also important to restore your enzyme balance. You need to identify and avoid the foods that cause acid accumulation and consume the foods that increase enzyme production. If you truly want to change and help your body heal itself , you need to take an active approach.

51. :What is the main purpose of this passage?

A. To advocate eating more raw and whole foods

B. To tell the differences between raw and processed foods

C. To inform people of the harm of processed foods

D, To warn people of the problem of obesity

52. It can be inferred from Para. 2 that_______.

A. it is essential for people to protect their vital organs

B. foods with natural enzymes help people keep fit

C. we'd better be cautious about raw and whole foods

D. giving up cooked and refined foods is a new lifestyle

53. Processed foods are unhealthy because they_

A. destroy body's cells B. are difficult to digest

C. may lead to obesity D. stop body's metabolism

54. What is likely to be talked about following the last paragraph?

A. Active approaches to avoid acid . B. Different causes of acid accumulation.

C. Correct ways to cook raw foods . D. Suitable types of raw and whole foods.

55. What can we learn from the text?

A. Processed foods are good for our appetite mechanism

B. Eating the right types of raw and whole foods does good to our body

C. The accumulation of acid in the digestive tract makes digestion more effective

D. Processed foods also comfort the digestive tract

写作

Possible version: .

Hi, dear John:

How have you been recently? I am more than happy to receive your letter and thank you for caring about me. In your last letter, you were asking for advice on how to keep healthy both physically and mentally in busy school life. As far as I am concerned, here are several approaches which can be applied in keeping healthy.

On the one hand, keeping healthy physically is essential for us to perform well at school. It is of great significance for us to develop a good rest and work routine, without which we will lack of sleep needed for acquiring knowledge over class. Furthermore, exercising regularly (doing some moderate workouts) and having a balanced diet help us greatly in staying energetic all day.

On the other hand, faced with such heavy study pressure, we need to keep healthy mentally which contributes to our success in school life as well. To begin with, it is wise to find out our own ways of relieving the stress produced (generated) in life. For example, the more we open up and talk about our problems with our optimistic friends, the more supports we will get, enabling us to relieve the metal burden during the process. what's moreit is always a good idea (don't hesitate) to turn to our parents and teachers for help when we come across some confusing problems. We are supposed to bear it in mind that our teachers and parents will always be there for us and provide the help needed.

To sum up, maintaining physical and mental health contributes greatly to better academic performance and lay a solid foundation for our future development. As a consequence, we should attach great importance to keeping fit and spare no effort to develop a healthy lifestyle. Only in this way can we live well and study well at the same time.

I wonder if you agree with me and I am looking forward to your reply.

Yours faithfully.

Li Jin .
