Unit 1 How to deal with our problems?

-------Reading

一. Teaching contents

A. Teaching objectives:

Knowledge objective:

a. let students master the vocabularies in this part and theby.

b. review about the words and phrases learned last time.

c. try to use the key sentence patterns to make their own sentences.

Ability objective:

a. know how to get the key information from the passage.

b. Cultivate the students’ ability of reading and comprehension, and instruct them some skills about reading.

c. Practice their ability of dealing with the problem.

Emotion objective:

After learning this passage, teachers should let students learn how to deal with the problems in their daily life with a positive mind and appropriate ways.

B. analyses about the key points and difficult points:

a. key points: the new word in this part, such as unless, deal with, unfair, solve, try one’s best, break off and so on.

b. difficult points:

the usage of the sentence patternsby regarding problems as challenges, by learning to forget, by thinking of something worse, It is our duty to ,try our best to, deal with, with the help of.

二. Teaching procedures

Step 1.leading – in:

A. Get the students to talk about the problems that they faced and how they solved them:

a. You can not get along well with your friends. How do you deal with it?

b. You can not do your homework. How do you deal with it?

c. You quarreled with your parents . How do you deal with it?

B.. Introduce Stephen Hawking to the students by showing some pictures and introduce some key language points to them.

( In this step, through the group discussion about the problems and some pictures about Stephen Hawking ’s experience, students can get information through listening, speaking, and watching.)

Step 2. skim-reading

a. Ask the students to finish reading the article quickly in two minutescircle the words they don’t understand and conclude the main idea.

b. Ask the students to check the ways of dealing with problems that are mentioned and finish the task in 3c.

by breaking off a friendship

by trying to forget about them

by seeing a psychologist

by thinking of a problem in a positive way

(in this step, student can have a general idea about the ways mentioned in the passage, they may learn how to get main information from a passage in a short time.)

Step 3 deep- reading

Ask the students to read the article carefully and do some exercises according to the article. At the same time, the teacher should give them some instructions on how to deal with the details of the article.

Step 4.Summary

The students have read the passage and known the meaning of the new words, phrases and difficult sentences from the context. Ask the students to summarize the passage what they have learnt during this period within 80 words and give some comments. Then the teacher gives a brief summary for their performances.

( in this step, student can try to organize their own opinion about what is context about .They will share their ideas with teacher and other students, and then they can practice their ability of speaking and comprehension)

Step 5 Homework

Do you have any problems in your life?

Write down your problems and how you dealt with them.

this is a composition which can check if the students have master the key points and difficult points. And then the teacher will give an assessment about their homework.
