With the development of modern technology, especially the Internet, an increasing number of various E-books have become accessible to people. There is no denying the fact that E-books have been gaining increasing popularity in the several past years with the development of information technology. As a consequence, there is a heated discussion on whether E-books will take the place of conventional books one day in the future.
As far as I am concerned, E-books will never ever replace conventional books in spite of their rising popularity. If only one of them can exist, conventional books will stand at last.
The handwriting which can be passed from one generation to the next has its own cultural significance and represents the tradition of a nationality. What’s more, the painting ink, the appealing cover and the beautiful language make conventional books more a work of art than just a book. In addition, conventional books do less harm to our eyesight and skin, compared with E-books. Besides, conventional books are good for collection especially which are valuable or priceless. And the paper books can be one way of communication. Reading paper books can give people a sense of satisfaction since that they can know what they read clearly though it is not convenient for people to search and save paper books.
How are E-books? The disadvantage of E-books exists as well as its advantages. The fact is that the low prices and convenience of E-books cannot make up our loss of fun in collecting rare books. Besides, we may get lost in the ocean of resources where harmful information can easily break into our mind. Moreover, despite the fact that reading on line can protect the forests from being cut down to make paper, the making of electric devices costs more materials and financial resources.
To conclude, conventional books and E-books have their own shortcomings and advantages. Though convenient as E-books are, it can not completely replace conventional books. Just as the invention of digital camera doesn’t put an end to the history of Chinese brush painting, conventional books are, and will still be a close friend of us. I don’t think E-books will replace the conventional books. And I prefer both of them will exist in our life. Because they will give us more information and knowledge and we can make good use of each.
