About the teaching material

This part of reading is important in this unit. And it is about the development of English. Students have studied English for several years, but they know little about the language they are learning. This passage can give them a general idea of English development process and help them get to know how to use the right words in different circumstance. What’s more, this article is written in time order. Therefore, it can be used to improve students’ ability to grasp the idea and structure.

About students

Make sure that students are anticipated in the class. When it comes to history, most of students may think it’s boring. So we have to make the class funny, and then they can be concentrated.

Nowadays, students are bound to show themselves. Maybe sometimes they need a little push. Thus, during the class, give more opportunities for them to practice which is also helpful for their concentration.

Give them several questions before reading and ask them to retell the story after reading. In this way, they can get more interested in the passage and can easily grasp the important points.

Direct speech and reported speech

This class is about grammar and usage. In this class, we will talk about direct speech and indirect speech.

About teaching material

When having grammar class, the most important thing is to make students follow your teaching steps. Comparatively, grammar is a little boring, so get students focused is crucial. According to the material, this class has three big knowledge points. The first one is the definition of Direct speech and reported speech. The second is the transformation skills between these two forms. The third is how to give reported speech to different kinds of sentences.

Teaching aims

After class, the students should now the definition and know how to transform one to another. How to change subject, sense, time and place also should be known. What’s more, the ability to use indirect speech to express statements, questions and imperative sentences.

About students

When the class begins, the warming-up part is significant. Use some questions to attract students’ attention. Then, teach the theory, give some examples and give excises. When it comes to how to retell different types of sentences, the understand of different types of sentences is the first step and analyze features. The best way for them to get those points in class is to give them chances to use knowledge.

1. Let students know what this class is about and the teaching targets.

2. Give the definition of Direct speech and reported speech.

3. Offer some examples to explain and let them have a general idea of what they are.

4. To be more specific, teach them how to change the tense, place, pronouns in transforming

5. Give them several minutes to finish the task on page 9, and give the right answer.

6. How to transform different kinds of sentences is the next important point. Give them time to read these instances on page 10, and followed by some practices to see if they really get the point.

7. After knowing how to do it, students will be asked to answers those question on page 11 in limited time, and this is the last part of this class.

8. Assignment- write down one sentence of each kind and transform them into another form.

Blackboard design

I will draw a chart on the blackboard to list the structure of this class. And if this class is difficult for them after seeing their performance, this chart will be asked to be copied in their textbook.

Advantages

The teacher uses power point to help her with her teaching process. And as this class’s topic is festerval these pictures are very attractive and is very useful for getting students’ attention. Questions are asked to be answered by different students. Almost all of those students are anticipated in the class. This is an effective way to make students think and make sure that students can keep up with the teacher.

Students are required to read, so the teacher can know how good their pronunciation are and correct the wrong pronunciation in time.

After students answer the question, the teacher give them corresponding comments on them, which is always positive. This way can give students courage and encourage them to be more active in class.

The whole class is well organized from learning new knowledge, asking questions to analyzing the passage. It’s easier for students to accept in this way.

In this class, the teacher give enough time for students to communicate and express their own ideas. This is good for their development of imagination.

Students have plenty of opportunities in class to share their thoughts, which can help them built their confidence. And it’s a way for them to know what others are thinking.

The teacher is very excellent in teaching. She seems very nice and kind, so students would like to say something in class.

When students have difficulties in answering a question, she will lead them to the right answer.

She starts the class with some casual talk with students, which makes thee class has a good atmosphere.

Disadvantages

The class is a little fast. I think the teacher don’t leave so much time for students to carefully reading the PPT.

Maybe this class depends too much on the PPT, so the class goes so quick. And everything is on the PPT, so there is only little other knowledge mentioned.

Easy questions should be given to those students who are not so good in English learning, so they can also be a part of class.

There are some new words for students. The teacher should give them a paraphrase to explain them, and make sure students really understand what you are saying.

Advantages

The teacher gives students opportunities to give presentation on the stage. In this way, students have to do some researches about new things and learn by themselves. It’s a good way for them to built their interest and memorize things for a longer time.

This class starts by the students speech, and followed by analyzing. Students play a big role in class, which apply to nowadays teaching theory.

The teacher dare to admit her mistakes and it makes her even closer to students.

The teacher gives corresponding comments after every presentation, which is very needed for students, so they can have better performance next time.

She writes down students’ ideas on the blackboard, which is clear and convenient to compare.

Discussion time is offered in class. And during this time, the teacher is listening to their talks as well. That makes sure that class is in order. And she can know students’ ideas immediately.

The teaching tools are well used in class.

Students ability of reading, speaking are practiced.

The teacher offers her students choices to choose the way they like to express themselves.

The teacher tries her best to communicate with her students and respect them.

Disadvantages

The teacher should be better in spelling, so the embarrassing situation could be avoided.

Students take too much time in class. The teacher should control the time as time is so limited in class.

The class is separated by presentations, which makes the whole class not so smooth.

The writing ability is not well practiced in class, but this is understandable. Time is so limited, so it’s better to give after-class assignment for them to make progress.

Advantages

The warming-up is very interesting and the class can be led to the topic immediately.

When there is new word for the class, she paraphrases it, totally takes students’ ability into consideration.

The teacher use both English and Chinese in class to make sure that students can get everything she says.

She uses imagines to let students connect the knowledge with the specific object.

Her teaching style is very casual, which makes the class has a very good atmosphere. And students are eager to learn in this atmosphere.

The class is well-organized. Step by step, all the difficult points are explained carefully.

The grammar and word transformation are given the proper importance, which expend students knowledge.

This class is based on tasks and questions. Various of questions are given to students to answer. As this class has too much new knowledge to learn, questions can ensure their attentions are focused on class.

Pictures are well-used. The time line is clearly showed the class. Students can get the general idea and structure of this class in a moment.

Time control ability of the teacher is very excellent. In limited time, every step is mentioned and assignment is required.

The chart makes things clearer.

Homework is very good for students to consolidate their knowledge.

Disadvantages

However, this class covers too many new things. The class may have no time to accept them in class.

Too many questions are asked. And students should be given more chances to give their opinions.

Advantages

Role play is an interesting part, which makes students think that they are the main roles. More students are active to anticipate the teaching process.

She is a teacher who encourages her students to express themselves.

This class is very attracting, as students are putted in “real” situation.

It’s very obvious that students are very eager to show themselves, because she tends to give them courage and applause.

On the stage, students ability of speaking and reflecting are practiced.

Her teaching style is loved by students. Students can learn in a funny way.

Disadvantages

Just because so much time is given to students, the teacher has little time to explain the difficult points in class. The teacher should control the time and balance it.
