A taste for travel

I love street food. Wherever I go, I’m always looking for chances to eat like a local. In many places, some of the best traditional food is served from a cart! From fish and chips in Edinburgh to pad thai in Bangkok, I’ve tried some delicious stuff! But there is a dark side to all this good food – food poisoning. I once had a bad 75 of it in Nepal. I was in bed for two days and unable to eat much for weeks after. I was in a remote area, so I had no access to clean water or food. I couldn’t help getting sick.

Most travelers have a horror story or two about food poisoning. It’s a risk we all take when we eat strange foods. But there are ways to enjoy good local food and avoid suffering from a(n) 76 stomach. The following tips will help keep you safe and healthy.

Drink clean water. In many places, tap water isn’t safe to drink. In these places, avoid ordering drinks made with water or served with ice. Drink bottled water or soda 77 .

Skip the fresh fruit. It might look and taste delicious. But if it’s been 78 in dirty water, it may make you sick. You can’t tell by looking at it, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Choose meat that has been cooked 79 and well. Meat and seafood that have been left out for a long time are dangerous to eat. If it doesn’t look or smell OK, move on.

Be prepared. Take medicines that can ease your symptoms. These won’t cure whatever disease you’ve 80 . But they will help with the pain when there’s no place to rest and recover.

With these tips in mind, you’re ready to dig in! Street food is part of the travel adventure; don’t be afraid to try something different. You never know – you might discover a new favourite dish.

Moving out, moving back

In the countries all over the worldpeople are leaving the countryside in huge numbers to find jobs in the citiesThey leave b 81 the countryside is much poorer than the city and often there isn’t much work there. S 82 such as transport, entertainment, hospitals and schools are usually much better in cities than they are in the countryThey hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city.

But in the big cities of Europe and America – London, Paris. New York, people are moving out of the city. These are usually families who have some money, and want to live a quieter life. They get t 83 of the noise and dirt of the city, the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don’t want to sit in traffic any more. D. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): ( 12)

“More young people should study Science”, Hazel Wallace, a Science teacher from London, said at a conference for young scientists last weekend. “More young people should take Science subjects at school and study them at university,” she said. “Scientists can change the world and can improve life for everyone. We also need more people who want to teach science and do scientific research.”

But there was bad news from Professor George Benson, a research scientist and university Science teacher, who was also at the conference. “Science courses at university are very good,” he said, “but there’s a real problem with Science teaching in schools. One in three people who teach Physics to 15-and 16-year-olds don’t have a physical degree. Not enough people are studying Science at university and this means that there are not enough science teachers.”

Mrs Wallace didn’t agree. “It’s true that the number of Science pupils fell between 2000 and 2010,” she said. “But now the numbers are rising again. The number of students who take Science subjects at school is much higher now than it was five years ago.”

Professor Benson was certain that numbers were still too low and added, “There’s still a problem with science lessons in schools. Most young people think that Science is boring or difficult or both. We have to find ways to interest 12-16 year olds in studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Old-fashioned teaching methods have to change. We must spread the news that Science is very important, but it can also be fun.”
