1.A Glimpse of My Country
Located in the east of the Asian continent,on the western shore of the Pacific Ocean,China has a land area of about 9.6 million square kilometers.China is a country of varied topographical features with highlands in the west and plains(平原) in the east.Most of China lies in the north temperate zone(北温带),characterised by a warm climate and distinctive seasons,a climate well suited for habitation.People of about 1.3billion live and work together on the land.56 nations make up the whole population of China.Chinese new year is the most important of traditional Chinese holidays. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will meet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year and receive money in red paper envelopes.
2.Tradiitional Chinese Festivals and some customs in celebrating in my hometown.
China’s major traditional festivals include the Spring Festival,the Latern Festival,the Qingming Festval,the Dragon Boat Festival,the Double Seventh Festival,the Med-Autumn Festival and the Double Ninth Festival.
Chinese new year is the most important of traditional Chinese holidays.In my hometown,windows and doors will be decorated with red color paper-cuts and couplets(对联) with popular themes of happiness, wealth and longevity. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. The family will end the night with firecrackers(放鞭炮). Early the next morning, children will meet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year and receive money in red paper envelopes. Chinese people love red color, which symbolizes prosperity and good luck. And people in other place, bring home their earnings and go to have a unit dinner with their families on Chinese new year eve.
