Although Paris is often considered the city of romance, close to a million adults who call it home are single. Many single people say that Frances capital is one of the most difficult places to meet people. The complaints of this lonely group have inspired a new phenomenon known as supermarket dating. At Galerie Lafayette Gourmet, singles can shop for more than just the items on their grocery list. They can look for someone who has blue eyes, brown hair, and is 1.8 meters tall, or whatever may be on their romantic shopping list.

At this Paris location, single people of all ages can schedule their shopping for Thursday nights between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m.. When they walk through the door, they pick up a purple basket to advise that they are looking for love. They try to arrive early because the baskets disappear quickly, and then they have to wait in line for their turn to wander the

store aisles(通道).

With purple baskets in hand, shoppers can consider their romantic choices when they pick out their groceries. When they are ready to pay, they can go to the checkout line for singles who want to chat.

Most of the people who look for love in the supermarket are doubtful about Internet dating. They know that it is easy to embellish(美化)ones appearance or to lie about ones

age over the Internet. The supermarket, on the other hand, is considered a safe environment in which to meet a potential match. In addition, what one finds in another’s grocery basket can say a thing or two about that persons character or intentions. Buying pet food can be a mans way of showing a potential match that he has a sensitive side. Women who fill their baskets with low-fat food show their healthy style of living. These days its possible to find much more than food at a grocery store.

58. What do many single people in Pairs complain about?

A. The idea of supermarket dating. B.The items on their grocery list.

C. The difficulty in finding a match. D. The inconvenience in shopping.

59. Which of the following can be inferred in the second paragraph?

A. The dating supermarket has very good business.

B. The dating supermarket is located in Paris.

C. The dating supermarket is open only on Thursday evenings.

D. Only single people can shop in the supermarket.

60. How do love shoppers meet one another?

A. They schedule their meeting in advance.

B. They pick out their groceries with great care.

C. They dial the phone numbers on their shopping items.

D. They go through a special checkout.

61. Why do the people prefer the supermarket dating to Internet dating?

A. The supermarket dating is more convenient.

B. The supermarket dating is more fun.

C. The supermarket dating is more trustworthy.

D. The supermarket dating is more economical.

Does the future of film making lie in virtual reality (VR) films?

An ambitious team led by Yale senior Celine Tien might hold the answer to that question

Tien produced, directed and acted in Pippas Pan, which she says is one of the worlds first live-action VR films.” The film, which was completed in April, mixes live action with VR sectionsSome of the characters were created via animation (动画) and other techniques that distinguish the film from 360° VR videos like the ones frequently seen on YouTube

360° VR videos are stagnant, which means you dont move with them and see a 360° view of whatever theyre filming, Tien explained.“What were doing is immersive (沉浸式的) VRWhen you put on the goggles (a kind of special glasses) you can physically walk around in the space, pick up objects and engage with the environmentIts a huge difference.”

The immersive VR film experience is different for everyone who interacts with the medium, but that doesnt mean the films ending will change for each viewer

The film stars two Chinese-speaking actors.“Its a love story about a woman suffering from Alzheimers disease who is trying to bring back memories of her husband, Tien said

The film has already been recognized by the VR industryAfter handing in a short demo to the AT&T Developer Summit Conference, Tien and her team were invited to Las Vegas in January, where they came in third place

If youre dying to see the film already, your choices are a bit limited: Pippas Pan cant be seen in movie theaters unless they happen to have VR goggles availableAccording to Tien, many theaters in China will soon have the ability, which makes sense considering China is the films target market

Pippas Pan will be released(发行)) in three languages: Chinese, English and Korean.“It can get spread in different ways: at film festivals with VR set ups and through HTC or Oculus headset stores, Tien says.“If you have VR goggles you can download it and experience it yourselfWe will also cooperate(合作) with movie theaters that have VR set ups.”

62According to the passage, people who are watching the immersive VR film can ______

Ainvolve themselves in the film B. produce and act in the film

Cchange the ending of the film D. experience similarly in the film

63We can know from the passage that Pippa’s Pan is ______

Aregarded as the best VR film B. the worlds first live-action VR film

Cabout an effective cure for Alzheimer D. a theme-based story of love

64If you want to watch the film Pippas Pan, you should ______

Ago to a movie theater Bhave goggles available

Clearn three languages Dattend film festivals

65The author writes the passage to _______

Aexplain to us how to watch a VR film

Btell us that China has been the films target market

Cintroduce an ambitious(有野心的)team and their immersive VR film

Dinform us that VR films are the future of film making

OK,I said to my daughter as she bent over her afternoon bowl of rice. Whats going on with you and your friend J.? J. is the leader of a group of third-graders at her camp------ a position Lucy herself occupied the previous summer. Now shes the one on the outs. And every day at snack time, she tells me all about it, while I offer the unhelpful advice all summer long.

Shes fond of giving orders, Lucy complained. Shes turning everyone against me. Shes mean. And shes fat. Excuse me, I said, struggling for calm. What did you just said? Shes fat. Lucy mumbled(含糊地说).Were going upstairs, I said, my voice cold. Were going to discuss this. And up we went. Id spent the nine years since her birth getting ready for this day, the day wed have the conversation about this horrible word. I knew exactly what to say to the girl on the receiving end of the teasing, but in all of my imaginings, it never once occurred to me that my daughter would be the one who used the F word-Fat.

My daughter sat on her bed, and I sat beside her. How would you feel if someone made fun of you for something that wasnt your fault? I began. She could stop eating so much, Lucy mumbled, mouthing the simple advice a thousand doctors have given overweight women for years.

Its not always that easy, I said . Everyones different in terms of how they treat food. Lucy looked at me, waiting for me to go on. I opened my mouth, then closed it. Should I tell her that, in teasing a womans weight, shes joined the long tradition of critics? Should I tell her I didnt cry when someone posted my picture and commented , Im sorry, but arent authors who write books marketed to young women supposed to be pretty?

Does she need to know, now, that life isnt fair ? I feel her eyes on me, waiting for an answer I dont have. Words are my tools. Stories are my job. Its possible shell remember what I say forever, and I have no idea what to say.

So I tell her the only thing I can come up with that is absolutely true. I say to my daughter, I love you, and there is nothing you could ever do to make me not love you. But Im disappointed in you right now. There are plenty of reasons for not liking someone. What she looks like isnt one of them.

Lucy nods, tears on her cheeks. I wont say that again, she tells me, and I pull her close, pressing my nose against her hair. As we sit there together, I pray for her to be smart and strong. I pray for her to find friends, work she loves, a partner who loves her. And still, always, I pray that she will never struggle as Ive struggled, that weight will never be her cross to bear. She may not be able to use the word in our home, but I can use in my head. I pray that she will never get fat.

66.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 indicates that Lucy ______.

A. has begun to compete with her friend J. B. has turned against her friend J.

C.gets along well with her friend J. D. often makes fun of her friend J.

67.Why does the author want to discuss with Lucy?

A. Because she decides to tell Lucy a similar story of her own.

B. Because she has prepared the conversation for nine years.

C. Because she is really shocked at Lucys rudeness.

D. Because she wants to offer some other helpful advice.

68.What does the author want to tell her daughter?

A. People shouldnt be blamed for their appearance.

B. People shouldnt complain because life is unfair.

C. She herself was once laughed at for her appearance.

D. It is not easy to take the doctors advice to eat less.

69.It can be inferred from the passage that_________.

A. the author earns a living by writing stories.

B. the author is a fat but good-looking woman.

C. the author will stop loving her daughter for what she said.

D. the authors daughter agreed with her from the very beginning.

第四部分:任务型阅读(10分)

Children who grow up with self-control and an understanding of others needs will be happy and successful adults, according to Dr. Cleen Kelly Mast, an expert on childrens health. The key to raising a successful child comes from realizing what is true happiness.

For a person to be truly happy, he or she should learn to form the habits of self-discipline(自律) and generosity. Parents must help their children to reach this point by emphasizing the development of virtue and the advantage of forming good habits. We have wonderful support systems through our schools, Dr. Mast said, but they are just support systems. The school cannot make up for what is lacking at home. According to Dr. Mast, family life is well suited to educate children in virtuous living and the development of what she calls a fine-tuned conscience, which brings happy feeling.

So how can busy parents help children fine-tune their consciences? Dr. Mast suggested parents stop blaming and criticizing and teach children the skills of self-discipline through concrete(具体的) actions.

However, a parents good example is not enough. Children must become involved in their own development. Parents can help to achieve that by making children realize that they are responsible for their actions in difficult situations, and they can choose to stop protecting them from painful experiences as well. Good discipline is not just making children follow their parents demands. We parents must encourage them with more than Because I said so.’” said Dr. Mast. Besides, orderliness and organization are quite important for children to achieve self-discipline.

In a broad sense, humans are designed to love, and love involves sacrifice, which is not a quite popular idea in the modern world. Parents need to work on developing their childrens habits of generosity and kindness to others. Help your child, and yourself, to think kind thoughts of others, while pushing out negative thoughts. said Dr. Mast. She also suggested parents find out their childrens nature by analyzing the way they react to situations or to other people. And it is also considered effective to have them develop the habit of reviewing the day nightly, with a focus on correcting their own particular faults.

But life is not all work and no play. All have the right to enjoy life. As parents, it is your duty to help your children form good habits and let them have fun while working hard, which will result in success when they grow up.
