Tanishq started community college at age 7, and last year he received associate’s degrees (副学士学位) from American River College, a community college in Sacramento, in general science, math and physical science, and foreign language studies.

Biology professor Marlene Martinez said the boy was not afraid to ask lots of questions.“ In lecture he would always pop up with “ so, does that mean --’ or ‘ what about this?’” Martinez said.

Tanishq has always picked up knowledge quickly, his father, Bijou Abraham, told NBC News.“ We tested him and discovered that he was pretty smart,” Abraham said. “ We were surprised when we started giving him advanced stuff and he was picking it up really fast.”

Tanishq says child geniuses are often seen as odd(古怪) .“ When you think of a genius, you think of a mad scientist kind of thing, “ he said. But he pointed out he’s just an ordinary kid who likes learning and microscopes but also playing video games. “ I just think learning is fun,” Tanishq said.

Today, many people use plants from other places to design their yards. Well, do they have any influence on animal living nearby? As we know, plants supply food for things like insects and plant-eating animals. In turn, birds and meat-eating animals feed on these insects and plant-eating animals. It is easy to see how important plants are.

Although exotic plants may look beautiful, they can cause problems when there are too many of them. I live in Virginia, USA, and sometimes see a plant--- commonly know as Kudzu--- that seems to cover everything in the area, even climbing over whole trees and houses.

Kudzu is an unbelievable plant since it grows very fast. It was first brought to the United States from south-east Asia around the 1870’s as a crop that farmers could grow. However, Kudzu quickly came to be considered harmful throughout the southern United States.

Since Kudzu grows fast in many different environments, it can completely cover areas of land quickly. The plant is also not eaten by any insects or birds in the United States so it can grow unchecked. Kudzu can cover trees, bushes, and even houses. It costs the United States 500 million dollars a year to just keep Kudzu at bay. The plant is a perfect example of what scientists call an invasive species (入侵物种), which grows rapidly and outcompetes other native plants.

All exotic plants have the possibility to become invasive. Not only are they costly, but planting them in gardens actually takes away food from insects. If everyone filled their garden with plants native to where they live, many lovely butterflies and other native creatures would be attracted to their backyards! So , take a look out of your window--- how does your garden grow?

18. We can learn from the passage that Kudzu in Virginia_________.

A. is very beautiful B. is difficult to grow

C. can cause big trouble D. can make air cleaner

19. Which of the following is TRUE of Kudzu?

A. It served as food at first in America.

B. It came to America in the early 19th century.

C. It grows fast in Asia, but slowly in America.

D. It is often eaten by insects or birds in America.

20. How does the author sound when telling of exotic plants?

A. Sad. B. Worried. C. Proud. D. Excited.

21. What does author mainly discuss in the passage?

A. Everyone should learn to love nature.

B. It is a hard job to grow plants in yards.

C. Gardening has become a serious hobby.

D. It is important to say no to exotic plants.

I always believe that the book is better than its film adaptation(改编)for many reasons. Many parents want their children to read the book before watching the film adaptation. This is because if you read the book, you have an image in your head of what the characters look like, what their voices sound like, and what the scene looks like, and usually it’s pretty good. But when you watch the film, all those appearance get changed.

When you watch a movie, you begin imagining that the characters in the book in fact look like the actors that are in the film adaptation. The film creators invite famous people to act out the characters in the book. For example, in the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Percy is expected to “look” like a 12-year-old who doesn’t know what he’s doing ad would lose any fight he got into. But in the film adaptation, Percy looks sort of athletic, and is 16 years old. So when you are reading the book, you see him as a sort of weakling (弱者), but when you see the movie, the image you had of him in your mind shattered.

On the other hand, the film adaptation can also be better than a book. With a movie, you don’t have to read anything. You can watch a movie while doing housework if you want to. But with a book, the only thing you can do is read. You can’t read a book and do housework at the same time; that’s impossible.

One thing that I don’t like about films is that people only make motion pictures around 2 to 3 hours long because they are afraid that people won’t enjoy it if it’s too long, which means they have to cut a lot of parts out and then put some more parts to let it make sense. But with a book, it can be as long as the author wants it to be, as long as it all makes sense. I’ve seen people who read books that are over 600 pages long not mind a bit, but when a 3-hour movie comes, they just can’t concentrate that long.

22. What does the author say about reading a book?

A. It creates good feelings. B. It indicates reader’s hobbies.

C. It changes readers’ thoughts. D. It inspires reader’s imagination.

23. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “shattered” in Paragraph 2?

A. created B. destroyed C. spread D. confirmed

24. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?

A. Compared with reading a book, watching a movie is more interesting.

B.Compared with reading a book, watching a movie lacks the personal touch.

C. Compared with reading a book, watching a movie is more popular with teens.

D. Compared with reading a book, watching a movie does not require your full attention.

25. What can we infer about the people who read 600-plus-page book?

A. They have poor concentration.

B. They don’t think movies make sense.

C. They prefer reading to watching movies.

D. They find reading boring but meaningful.
