Glengarry Glen Ross is mainly about four salesmen at one real estate office of America try every means to sell the worthless lands. Besides, they face intense competition since the sales leader will be reward an advanced car, but the last two will get fired unfortunately. What impressed me most is the variety of sales skills they used in their real estate sales.
The first and most important sales skill is that a salesman should take full advantage of client list to concentrate on the tasks at hand whether good or bad. Do not let greed influence our job. In this movie, although the four salesmen get bad resources of lands, they have to try hard to sell them rather than always complaining of that and not getting the good lands so that achieve nothing.
Perseverance, patience and sincerity are necessary for being a good salesman. During each business, a good salesman should persist in persuading your customer to buy your products. When your customers have questions about your products, you should treat your customers in a patient and sincere way. In this movie, although Shelley Levene knows that the client doesn’t want to buy lands or invest on lands, he still goes to client’s house and persists in persuading him to buy it. However, if the business is bound to fail, you should change your plan at any time. Because each salesman own limited resources and power, you can’t eager to succeed in every business and want to earn money as much as other salesmen. You need to find the suitable business and let alone the unfitted one. After Levene is refused by his client on phone, he calls to other clients as soon as possible.
Having a pair of good found eyes in potential client everywhere and make them become your clients is requisite for a good salesman. Ricky Roma makes a man who are eating in pubs become one of his clients. Firstly, he sits with the man and talks with him, and then shares interests. After making friend with the man, Roma promote the sales of lands at the right time.
There are still many other useful sales skills learned by me from the movie. All of these skills offer us precious possessions whether we are to be salesman or not.
