Table manners are how to behave when you eat a meal. They include how to handle knives and forks and how to eat in a civilized manner. The world's largest travel and digital publisher, Lonely Planet has gathered manners tips.It warns of careless mistakes you should avoid at table. Here is an example

Eating in Japan. It is “perfectly” okay to slurp (make a noise while drinking something) when you eat noodles.Unlike making big noises, slurping mildly is not rude but is a compliment to the chef.Japanese also say it tastes better if you slurp. It's important to say traditional phrases of thanks before and after a meal.Eat sushi whole.Dip the fish part rather than the rice into soy sauce.

Eating in Russia.Your wrists should be placed on the edge of the table while eating, fork in left hand, knife in the right.Leave some food on your plate to show that the host has given you enough to eat.Or the host will ask if you'd like to have a second helping. It's polite to absorb excess (more than is needed) sauce or gravy (juices from cooking meat) with bread.

第二节 读写任务(1小题,满分25)

阅读下面短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Helicopter parents (过度溺爱孩子的父母) pay close attention to everything, and overmanage their children's life. Some make sure their children succeed in every way.Others hurry to prevent harm, instead of letting their children learn from their mistakes.

Like a helicopter that hovers, parents by the same name are always within reach, even when their children demand a bit more breathing room. They think they're helping their children, but experts believe they could be causing more harm than good.

Are you in constant contact with your child? Cell phones have led to frequent communication between parents and children. If you call your child every morning to make sure he's getting to class on time, take a step back.

Do you try and make all your child's academic decisions for him? If you are choosing his courses and career path, you're not letting him decide how to live his own life.Giving advice is OK, but give him some space to make his own decisions.

Do you get anxious if your child doesn't succeed? Helicopter parents base their own selfworth on their children's success, and that can create problems for everyone. If your child fails a project or has relationship troubles in school, don't take it personally. You've done the best you can, and now the rest is up to him.

I have a friend Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch (牧马场) in San Ysidro. When he was a senior, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

The next day he handed it in to the teacher. But when the teacher returned it, he found on the front was a large red FThe boy with the dream asked, Why did I receive an F

The teacher said, This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you.You have no money. You come from an itinerant (四处奔波的) family. You have no resources.Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you'll have to pay large stud fees. There's no way you could ever do it.

He stated, “You can keep the F and I'll keep my dream.”

The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on his ranch for a week. When the teacher was leaving, he said, “Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer.During those years I stole a lot of kids' dreams.Fortunately you had enough belief not to give up yours.”

第一节 基础写作

参考范文:

With the popularity of ecotourism, more and more people are taking part in it, especially the middle school students. However, some problems arise alongside ecotourism, such as littering, polluting water, destroying trees, chasing or catching insects and so on.The students do like this just for fun or because they don't realize the harm to the environment. Therefore, we should increase students' environmental awareness, and popularize environmental protection knowledge among students.Only in this way can our ecotourism last long.

第二节 读写任务

参考范文:

A boy and his father blew hard to make bubbles with a bottle of soapy water and a plastic loop but failed. Finally, his father succeeded in making big bubbles by breathing on the loop gently.

The story just tells us a truth that no matter what we are doing, we must do it properly.Otherwise, we cannot succeed even if we devote more time, money or energy to it.

Just take the example of me.After starting Grade 3, I began to stay up late studying till 1100 in the evening.I thought my study would make great progress in this way, but the result was just the opposite.Lacking sleep, I often felt sleepy in class and was unable to concentrate on lessons. At last, instead of doing well, I fell behind. And then I realized that staying up late is not a good way for me.So I started a normal daily routine and my study was quickly improved.

Therefore, please remember that doing things in a correct way is the basis of success.

第一节 基础写作

参考范文:

This term we have a volunteer project called “Big Brothers and Sisters”It is for children whose parents have died or whose parents have left home to hunt for jobs in large cities. We help them with their homework, chat with them, and organize some interesting activities two evenings a week.We keep them company just as if we were their elder brothers and sisters. Our activity is well received by the children.

第二节 读写任务

The passage mainly tells us the definition of table manners.By showing us some unique table manners in different countries, it reminds us to value table manners.

I strongly believe that table manners should be taken seriously in our daily life. That's because table manners represent a whole group's culture and civilization, which means that appropriate manners have a positive influence on a group, and even a community.

Unfortunately, many people don't take table manners seriously. Some people, for example, always talk on their mobile phones or send text messages at table while they are getting together with their friends.Others shout while eating in public places, like in the canteens or restaurants, totally ignoring the feelings of those around them. All of these inappropriate behaviors at table show no respect to others.

To improve this situation, it is expected that teenagers should learn what acceptable table manners are at a very young age with their parents and relatives. At schools, teachers and students should work together to help everybody follow the accepted rules. Most importantly, adults have their responsibility to behave appropriately and set good example for the youth.

The Health of Chinese Youngsters—A Big Concern

A latest survey shows that the health of Chinese youngsters has greatly declined. Many Chinese students are facing a number of physical problems, such as obesity and shortsightedness, etc.Under the current educational system, marks seem to mean everything to students so students have to spend most of their time in doing endless homework in order to pass the college entrance examination. As a result, they do not sleep or exercise enough.

To improve students' health, we should reform the current educational system.Besides, we call for less homework, thus leaving students more time to sleep and take exercise and only in this way can the health of youngsters be greatly improved.

第二节 读写任务

Helicopter parents are those who are always hovering around their children, doing almost everything for them. They're seemingly helping their children, but actually harming them, depriving them of their selfdependence.

I must admit that my parents love me very much, even though they sometimes criticize me.Last Monday, I wanted to chat with my American friend online. However, they didn't allow me to use the computer because they don't like me surfing the Internet frequently, or chatting alone with foreigners.Although they deeply care for me, it makes me unhappy that they often look through my personal things. Also, if I watch TV too much, they complain about my habits.

I would like to tell them that I can manage without their hovering over me! I'd like to say to them, “Please let go of your anxiety.Give me some advice, when necessary, about how to make good decisions.Otherwise, let me think for myself.Your goal should be for me to grow up on my own, into an independent, mature adult.”

第一节 基础写作

In recent years, selfdrive tourism has become people's preference in travelling during holidays and the reasons why more and more people choose it are as follows. The traditional Chinese festivals, such as the Midautumn festival, are set as official holidays, providing people with more chances to travel together with their family and friends.Besides, the rapid development of road construction and the increasing number of people owning private cars make selfdrive tourism boom.Compared with traditional tourism, traveling by selfdriving enables people to get closer to nature and give them more freedom in the tour.Since people have to drive all the way during the tour, they have to pay special attention to the safety problem and avoid driving when exhausted.

第二节 读写任务

Belief Can Change One's Fate

The writer's friend, Monty Roberts, had had strong belief in owning a horse ranch since he was a senior. He stuck to his dream and finally achieved it.

For a person, belief always plays an important role in his life.As a saying goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.” Anyone who has strong belief can enjoy a colorful life.Otherwise, he will lose himself in his way of life.

Belief is so important that it can change one's fate.As a deaf man, Beethoven went on working with his strong belief in the last years of his life, though he was not able to hear his own fine music.Marie Curie, a famous scientist, also has set a good example. In 1898, Marie found a new element in the pitchblende. In order to prove her discovery, Marie and her husband worked hard.At last they saw the dim blue light of new element—radium. Her dream had come true.

From my personal point of view, it can be seen that one with firmlyheld belief is likely to be successful and master his own life.
