the first time 是引导状语从句的连接词
the first time 首次；第一次。常引导时间状语从句，其重点不是讲第一次做什么，而是说明另一动作或情况；也可以作表语，强调到说话为止某一情况或动作的次数。这个词组在句中可以起到连接词的作用．例如：
2）I knew we would be good friends the first time I met her．
第一次见到她，我就知道我们会成为好朋友。
3）This is the first time I have been to the Great Wall．
这是我第一次去长城。
此外，在考核the first time时，还要经常考核它的另外的句式结构：
It is the first time +从句（从句中通常使用现在完成时态）
It was the first time +从句（从句中通常使用过去完成时态）
It is the first time he has been in China.
It was the first time he had been in China.
这两个句中的the first time 一般被看成先行词，后面是一个省略了that的定语从句
The first time I went to England, I was impressed by its beauty. =When I went to England for the first time,. I was impressed by its beauty.
at the first time 和for the first time 都是介词短语，作句子的时间状语的
for the first time 首次；第一次。表示有生以来或一段时间内第一次做某事，在句中一般单独作状语。例如：
1）The two girl students talked for the first time at the beginning of the term．
at the first time介词短语，是“在第一次”,第一时间,也就是...一开始就... 仅仅是指出时间顺序，一般情况下已有多件同类型的事件发生过，而此处仅仅表明指的是第一次发生的时候，并没有那么强调“独一无二”。
He won the match at the first time.
他在第一次比赛中就获胜了。
We should inform the insurance agent at the first time.
我们应在第一时间通知保险公司代理。
