Evil is at the core of human nature(2)

Evil is at the core of human naturePuritanism believes that evil is at the core of human nature. I do agree with this point of view. There is a saying in ancient China “people are born evil”. I strongly agree with this contention. There are two reasons to support my opinion. First, it accords with human development. Secondly, scientific results and philosophy inform us that on a societal level people are born evil. To begin with, the contention accords with our experience as human from ancient time to the present. In the Genesis, Adam and Eve, ancestors of all mankind, steal the forbidden fruit out of curiosity, and then were driven out of Eden by God. The growing desire that roots in their mind draws them to do bad deeds. As infants, we have learnt a skill to satisfy our desire by nature, that is, sucking milk from our mother’s breast. According to Floyd, this behavior comes from our desire for sex which resides in our mind from our birth. In contemporary society, people tend to be indifferent because of seeking wealth and power. People put their own interests at first priority. From these examples, we could know that expanding desire roots in people’s mind are the causes of evil nature which could result in evil consequences. This same principle also could be demonstrated in the scientific field. Consider, for example, an 2002 study from ‘Scientific American’. Scientists found that a predicted antisocial behavior in men who were mistreated as children, and the products of genes were more likely to develop antisocial personality disorder. As genes is the one of elements which control men’s behavior, this finding provide strong evidence that evil human nature might be caused by the set of genes. The demonstration of the value that people are naturally evil is not limited to the science.in the field of mental laboring, philosophers from both east and west have explored it and established a convincing set of theory. Take Xunzi as an example, he advocated the ‘evil nature’ throughout his career. In his theory, people are prone to be lured by sexual pleasure and material pursuits. If this phenomenon proceeds without control, the world will be a mass of murder or rubbery. Only through moral education could lead the evil human to the right way. If people are not born evil, what is the use of education? People not only make laws to quell violence, but also make moral norms in order to reduce fighting. If people insist that human nature is good, it implies that all of the moral education of mankind are fruitless. We can just let our society go by itself, there’s no need for moral laws, traffic rules, personal integrity and social enlightenment.Last but not the least, there is an old saying goes: “The fly does not bite seamless egg”. Internal reasons cause the external behavior. If human nature is good and without any evil, why do so many people do crime things so easily while it is so hard to do good things?To sum up, as far as I’m concerned, we should admit that human nature is evil. Being evil inherently is not shameful, while being afraid to face makes people shameful. Moral education can makes people get rid of evil desires. Only in this way can we face the history squarely and face our inner heart correctly. What is more, only by understanding human nature is evil can we know the importance of moral education and legal rules..
