Keep your eyes on your own paper" is one of the rules that Mrs. Archer has taught us. It is a simple rule, but it's not a rule everybody chooses to follow.

This morning. I had an experience with a "rule breaker”during an English exam. I felt somebody was watching me a little too closely.I turned my head quickly and saw James. who sat right behind me. My eyes caught his and he said in a low voice. I hope you studied for this test!” I gave him a smile, not sure whether he was joking or not, and returned to my test. This time I leaned (倾身) a little more closely towards my paper,I can't see!" James said. What am I going to do?"I thought to myself. Cheating (欺骗) went against my beliefs. I curled my arm around my answers.

He's your friend, and what are friends for?"

You know it's wrong."

I tapped(轻敲) the top of my desk, hoping for an easy way out of this matter. No easy answer came. I just knew I had to do what I felt was right, even if it made James mad. So I guarded my paper so that he couldn't see my answers.

When the exam ended, I stood there for a moment, searching for the right words to say to James. "Sorry, James, but you know me well enough to understand how I feel about cheating.”I said slowly and softly. But maybe I could help you study before the next test"OK, Brian,”he smiled. It might not be easy, but I'll give it a try."

I felt happy that my friendship with James hadn't been destroyed (破坏).Mrs. Archer would be proud.

59. Who was the rule breaker"?

C. Because he didn't let James copy his answers in the exam.

D. Because he followed the rule and kept friendship with Janes.

These days, more and more Chinese people enjoy sending and receiving messages on the phone. It can help them to get the latest news and communicate with friends. But I think I should read more books besides the textbooks, the more, the better. It can open my eyes and improve my language skills. Of course, it also can help me get good grades. Do you know how to read more and learn more? Here are some tips for you.

Clear your purpose for reading

Before you start reading, ask yourself why you are reading this book? Most people read for two main reasons, pleasure or knowledge. Clearing about your reading purpose can not only help you choose the books you really need to read, but also remind you why reading the book is important to you, so you will keep reading and complete the book faster.

Read only what you are interested in

No matter what you are reading, it is important to enjoy what you read. Your friends may tell you the books they love, but those books might not necessarily be the ones you enjoy.

Give up books that you don't enjoy

You may have chosen books that you are interested in, and they are right to your purpose. But while you are reading them, there may still be some books that you don't enjoy reading. Whenever you realize that you aren't enjoying the book you are reading, give it up. Remember reading shouldn't be a chore.

Set a reading goal

It is interesting that I read the books borrowed from libraries faster than those I bought. The reason is the books I bought don't have a due date! I don't need to return those books. Having a reading goal helps you work out how much reading you need to do in a week or even a day. Before you read each book, ask yourself what time you need to complete this book by.

62.Why do most people read books?

A. To get the latest news and communicate with friends.

B. For pleasure or knowledge.

C.To open their eyes and improve their language skills.

D.To get good grades.

63. What should you do when you find the book which you are reading is boring?

A. Keep on reading. B.Set a reading goal.

C. Read the books your friends love. D.Give up the book.

64. The underlined words due date" mean __________ in Chinese?

A. 星期 B.借期 C.还期 D.日期

65.The passage mainly tells us _______________.

A. how to read more and learn more B. how to choose a good book

Our class had a discussion last month, the topic is is food part of the holidays? Let's see what my classmates said.

Liao: I think there is a really close connection (联系) between festivals and food. My dad is a businessman. He travels on business a lot. He even has to travel during holidays, like Mid-Autumn Festival. But he once told me that as long as he can eat my mom's homemade moon cakes, he can feel like he's at home with us.

Zhang: Eating moon cakes during Mid-Autumn Festival drives me crazy! I really don't like the taste of moon cakes, but Mom forces (强迫) me to eat them every year. But as I eat more moon cakes, I start to hate the holiday! This holiday should be held to celebrate some special person or event, not a food. I don't want this tasteless food to ruin (毁坏) my holiday anymore.

Chen: In my opinion, eating traditional food during holidays is part of our culture. I remember one time during Lantern (灯笼) Festival, my parents were too busy to bring home any sweet dumplings. Although we still lit up our rabbit lantern that night, I still felt like the festival was not complete, since we didn't have any dumplings.

Yuan: In the past, people would usually save precious (珍贵的) food for special days. But now, we can eat it whenever we want. I don't think it is important to eat traditional food during holidays anymore. I'm Jenny. I'm a movie lover and I want my kids to like movies, too. The first time I took my daughter, May, to the movie theater, she was 6 and the movie was Bambi. I chose it because I thought a cartoon movie would be good to her.

Everything was going just fine and Bambi was so lovely. However, when a man killed Bambi's mother, my daughter became very sad and asked to go home. So we left in the middle of the movie. Later I chose movies more carefully and my daughter watched many great ones. Luckily, she likes movies as much as I do now.

My worry is: Are Cartoons really safe (安全的) for kids?

Once I sat on the sofa to watch a cartoon with my 8-year-old son, Nick, I got dumbfounded when I saw a cartoon character was bleeding (流血) in front of us. The cartoon was like an action movie for adults (成人).

History is one of my favourite subjects. I learn history in different ways. History class in the United States is different from that in China.

At Chinese middle school, my history textbook is thin.It has only about 100 pages. We listen to the teacher, take notes and do exercises after school. We do not have to know much about the background(背景) of the historical events(历史事件).

In short(简而言之), we learn mainly by listening in class.

However, in the U.S. I have a heavy, thick textbook. It has more than1,000 pages. We have reading tasks(任务) before each class. We need to answer a few questions after the reading.

In class, we discuss a lot. The ideas come from the teachers, and also come from the students. Sometimes, we have more activities like debates(辩论). They are exciting. They encourage us to have our own thinking.
