MyhometownliesonthePlainofNorthChina.The
famousGrandCanalofChina①istotheeastofourvillage.Thisistheplacewheremyforefathers②havelivedforgenerations.WhenIwasaboyIoftenplayedwithotherchildrennearthebankofthecanal.Iwatchedthepassingboats，andIwishedtotravelallovertheworld.
Thereareabout800peopleinourvillage.Apond，teemingwith③fish，liesinfrontofthevillage.Iusedtoswimthereinsummerandskateinwinter.ItwasinthispondthatIspentthehappiestdaysofmychildhood.
Tothenorthofourvillagearegreatfields.Whenspringcomes，thecropsbegintogrow，turningthefieldsgreen.Whencropsturnyellowinautumn，thepeasantsstarttoharvestthem.
Betweenthecanalandourvillageisanorchard.Therewereonlyafewkindsoffruittreesyearsago，butnowthepeasantsgrowmanysorts，includingpeach，plum，appleandorange.
Themajorityofthevillagershavebecomemuchbetteroff.Aboutaquarterofthehouseholdshaveboughttelevisionsetsandtaperecorders.Areading-roomandalibraryhavebeenbuilt.Everyeveningmanyyoungpeoplegototheeveningschooltolearnscienceandreadnewspapers.
Tworoadscrossinfrontofourvillage.Onsummerevenings，peoplesitunderthetreesenjoyingthecoolbreeze④。Thehousesinourvillagearewelllaidout.
Bytheendoflastyear，35studentsinourvillagehadgraduatedfromseniormiddleschool，and12studentswereenrolled⑤atcolleges.
Thisismyhometown.Ihopeyouwillmakeavisithereoneday.
