Many circumstances in our lives come with a waiting period, which can trigger our anxiety. We probably know that worry isnt very helpful and that it only hurts our health. But we also probably cant stop. Below are the suggestions for reducing worry while we wait.

Recite(背诵)helpful words. Come up with words of encouragement that you can tell yourself. For example, I am strong and brave and can get through this.”“ I believe myself and my abilities. I am deserving.

Lead a mindful life. Staying present focused is the key to managing anxiety. One strategy is to give tasks your full attention. Middle Island, off the coast of southern Victoria, Australia, is home to the world’s smallest penguins—fairy penguins. There used to be hundreds of them on Middle Island before foxes got to them. We went from a point where we had around 800 penguins down to where we could only find four. says Peter Abbott from the Penguin Preservation Project. Once 360 birds were killed over about two nights.

That particular incident happened in 2005, but the problem had been building up for several years. Middle Island, where no people live, is separated from the mainland by a stretch of water measuring no more than 20 or 30m deep. At low tide, and when sand builds up in the narrow channel, foxes can cross from the mainland barely getting their paws(爪子)wet.

A chicken farmer suggested sending his Maremma dogs to the Island. The first dog which was sent to Middle Island is called Oddball. The dogs operate in the penguins’ breeding(繁殖)season, from October to March, spending five or six days a week on the island. Even when the dogs are not there, the smell they left is enough to keep foxes away. The fairy penguin population has gone back up to almost 200.

The project has been such a success that a movie called Oddball has been made about it. It has increased tourism, and in the summer months people can visit the island on a “Meet the Maremma Tour. Many locals appeared as characters in the film. My character was played by an American actor, says Peter Abbott. I tell people it’s because they couldn’t find an Australian as good-looking as me.

28. What happened to the fairy penguins after foxes appeared on Middle Island?

A. They were frightened away from the island.

B. They almost became extinct.

C. They stopped breeding in breeding seasons.

D. They daren’t go out at night.

29. How did the foxes reach Middle Island?

A. By walking directly from the mainland.

B. By following the tracks left by people.

C. By swimming across the stretch of water.

D. By building up sand in the stretch of water.

30. Why were Maremma dogs sent to the island?

A. To kill more foxes.

B. To guard the islanders.

C. To leave their smell there.

D. To protect the fairy penguins.

31. What made Middle Island famous?

A. The movie Oddball.

B. The fairy penguins.

C. Maremma dogs.

D. Meet the Maremma tour.

Nowadays it’s believed that the largest contributors to air pollution are gasoline vehicles. They not only give off harmful gases but also dangerous and heavy metal particles(微粒) that can result in environmental dangers. We can’t stop using vehicles and thus stop air pollution right away. However, at least we can look for better replacements so that air pollution can be reduced. According to studies, hydrogen (氢)cars prove to be a better replacement for traditional cars.

A hydrogen car is a vehicle that uses hydrogen as fuel for its engine to work. There are two types of hydrogen cars. The first one is to use hydrogen as a fuel, and the second one is to use hydrogen fuel cells(电池) to provide power for the car. Hydrogen and oxygen react chemically with each other to produce electricity, thus starting the car.

There are many advantages of hydrogen cars. For example, hydrogen is available in plenty. Therefore, you needn’t worry about a lack of hydrogen. More importantly, no harmful gases are released as by-products .The only by-products are water and a little amount of heat so air pollution is prevented up to a large extent.

However, there are also some problems with hydrogen cars. For instance, in case of damage, the cost of repairing and replacing fuel cells is high. Worse still, hydrogen is a material which can burn easily, so it can result in a huge explosion of the car.

The concept of hydrogen cars is relatively new for most people. Research is still in progress to reduce disadvantages and increase advantages. Therefore, hydrogen cars are expected to contribute their bit towards making this planet better and healthier!

32. The main purpose of the passage is to tell readers_____________.

A. to stop air pollution right away.

B. the reasons for air pollution.

C. the weaknesses and strengths of hydrogen cars.

D. a new type of cars.

33. Which isn’t the by-product made by gasoline cars?

A. Harmful gases.

B. Hydrogen.

C. Heavy mental particles.

D. Carbon monoxide.

34. The author may disagree .

A. There is no chance that we quit using cars.

B. Hydrogen cars produce water and a little amount heat as by-products,

thus reducing air pollution.

C. Hydrogen can be used as fuel for the engine of traditional cars.

D. Hydrogen is easy to burn.

35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A. Hydrogen cars have been put into use.

B. Hydrogen cars have a long way to go.

C. Hydrogen cars made contributions to making this planet better and

healthier.

D. The concept of hydrogen cars is relatively new for most people.

第二节 写作

One Possible Version

Dear Jack:

I’m writing to share with you my experience at the weekend. I took part in a volunteer activity. My duty was to clean a busy street which is about four hundred meters long. After I got up at seven o’clock, sleepy, I went out without a second thought. Cleaning the street seems easy, but sometimes it is very dangerous as you have to be careful of passing cars and bikes. I threw myself onto the bed as soon as I got back home in the afternoon. It was not until then that I realized how great street cleaners are. What about your weekend? Please tell me in your next email.

Regards, Li Hua

听力录音原文

Text 1

M: Do you have any plans for the weekend, Dorothy. Would you like to join me for an outing?

W: Thanks, but I am going to work on my paper all weekend.

Text 2

W: May I help you, sir?

M: Yes, I seem to have lost my room key.

W: In that case, you need to go to the front desk to get another one.

Text 3

M: Waitress! This beef is like old leather! It is enough to break every tooth in your mouth.

W: Perhaps we’d like to change your order, Sir.

Text 4

M: It’s my first time here. Can you tell me how to use the lab?

W: You should either go to any computer or come to the help desk to reserve a computer. If you want to print something, your can go to the next room.

Text 5

M: Hi, Mary. What did you buy

W: This coat. Do you like it?

M: Yes, yellow looks good on you.

W: Do you think my black bag will go well with it?

M: Your brown one will look better.

Text 6

M: HeyLisa, we should go. David’s party started hours ago.

W: I don’t want to go. I don’t like Nancy. She was rude to me when we saw her at the pub

last week.

M: Who’s Nancy? David’s girlfriend?

W: No, David’s girlfriend is Laura. Nancy’s going out with Tom.

M: Oh. Well, Tom said he’d be going to the theater tonight. So maybe Nancy won’t be at the party.

Text 7

M: Hello Barbara, welcome back. You look great.

W: Rod, it’s lovely to see you again.

M: How was your trip?

W: Fine but tiring. Milan was interesting, it’s bigger than I expected, noisier and dirtier, too.

M: And Florence, what do you think of Florence?

W: Well I didn’t go there .Have you ever been there?

M: No, I have never been to Italy. I’d really like to go to Roma. Well, the cars are in the car park. Is this all your luggage?

W: Yes, but the suitcase is very heavy.

M: Barbara, what’s in it? Books or stones?

W: Just 20 pairs of shoes.

Text 8

M: Come in, please. Oh, Mary, come over and sit here. Your annual report is well done. I heard you did it within just two days.

W: Yeah. But I receive a lot of help from my colleagues.

M: I know you are a capable person. The others couldn’t have helped you much. They had their own work to do.

W: Thank you for saying that. But I don’t always do a good job. I have been thinking that you must still be upset with me for the wrong figures I gave you the day before yesterday.

M: Take it easy. Everyone makes mistakes. However, be more careful next time. You have a bright future ahead of you.

W: Thank you so much for your encouragement. Mr,Chandler. I’ll do my best.

Text 9

M: Now, Mrs,Franks,I just like to read your statements back to you, and then you can write your name on it.

W: Fine.

M: I was standing in front of the Second National Bank Building at about 8:50 am, I saw a small red car heading for the cross road of Churchill Avenue, and York Road, it was coming towards me along Churchill Avenue at about 40 miles per hour. The traffic lights on York Road changed to green, and a delivery lorry began to move forward at about 5 miles per hour. The driver of the car probably didn’t see that his traffic light has changed from orange to red, and ran into the side of the lorry.

W: That’s correct.

Text 10

Hello, everybody. Thanks for listening to J-WAVE, Tokyo’s favorite radio station. We’ll be playing some music by Britney Spears in a moment, but first let’s check the weather out there. It’s been a beautiful day today, hasn’t it? Well, this evening’s weather is changing fast, so if you are on your way home from the office, you’ll have to be careful driving because there are some low clouds moving in. You won’t see the lights of Tokyo Tower tonight! Seriously, it may be difficult to see other cars on the highway, so put your lights on and drive slowly for safety tonight, OK? No umbrellas necessary tomorrow. We’ll have beautiful weather all week, mild temperatures and sunshine starting tomorrow and lasting through the weekend. Have a picnic in the park, take a hike and get some fresh air. That’s what I plan to do.
