E-books Will Not Replace Traditional Books
With the great progress made in information industry, e-book runs well in involving itself into everyday life. As is reported, half of middle school students in China are reading e-books; 80% in high school and nearly everyone in college have ever read e-books. E-book is in its flourishing time.
However, there is a disappointed trend that the number of readers who read traditional books is sharply declined. So, many people hold the negative attitude toward traditional books, thinking that they will get replaced.
For me, to be frank, I have never worried about the rough situation traditional books are facing. I believe most of you have ever heard of catfish effect. After fishermen catch sardines from the ocean, they put some catfishes among the sardines because sardines are quiet and do not like moving around, as a result of which the death rate of sardines is high because of lack of oxygen when transported; but catfishes are active and like swimming around in the water. By putting them together, there is hardly any death during the transportation. And now, I think, e-books are to traditional books what catfishes are to sardines. Reading paper books is a unchangeable way of reading weather in the past or nowadays, which is quiet and may be a little bit tiring to some. But the popularity of e-books is just playing the role which catfishes play in the transportation of sardines, stimulating the activeness. So, it is safe to say that e-books will not replace traditional books.
