我们将西欧中世纪称为封建社会，我们用封建主义来概括西欧这一时期的社会特征：在这一时期领主和封臣的关系构成了西方社会关系的基础。同时，“封建主义不仅仅只是一组古怪名称组成的制度，它是组织一个地区政治生活的方式，实际上也可看作是政府的结构。”①这样的政治结构，必然会塑造出独特的政治文化。在西欧漫长的封建社会过后，近代以来西方发展出了自由主义的政治文化，我们知道历史不是孤立发展的，封建主义的中世纪构成近代社会形成的基础，那么在封建主义的政治文化和西方近代政治文化之间有着什么样的联系呢？
