Sointhefirstpartofthisfilm,whenIsawthatthequeeninsistedseeingDiana’sdeathasaprivateaffair,nottobetreatedasanofficialRoyaldeath,afeelingofdisliketothequeenslowlyfilledmyheart.Iwonderhowcouldshebesocold,soindifferentandalwaysseemslikesosensiblewithoutanyhumanity.Butasthefilmadvanced,IthinkIcanfinallyunderstandher,understandhowdifficultitisforhertobethequeen,andthesenseofadmirationeventuallytookplaceofthedislike.
RemembershesaidtoBlairthat“Youaremytenthprimeminister”,Iwassurprisedatthatmoment,andsoonIrealizethatshehasbeenthequeensinceshewasjustalittlegirl,shy,youngandinnocent.Andwhenotherchildrenatheragewereplayingoutsidewithhappyandcarefreeminds,shemustsitinthechair,meetingthoseimportantpeople.

bebroken,andshemustfeelwrongedbythepeople,howunjustthey’vedonetoher!Ievennoticedhertearyeyes,butwhensheturnedbacktothepeopleandthepress,shesmiled,pretendingtherewasnothinghappened,andmaintainingthegracefulnessasusual.Becausesheknowsthatsheisthequeen,sheisthesymboloftheLoyalFamily,sheshouldalwaysstandaperfectimagefortheBritishpeople.Soshemusthideherowntruefeelings.
Andthat’swhy,Ibelieve,sheappearedindifferenttoDiana’sdeath.Shewastaughttokeepherfeelingstoherselfsinceshewasjustalittlegirl,andshebelievedthatwaswhatpeoplewantedfromher-nottomakeafuss,norwearone'sheartonone'ssleeve.Soshealwaysputthedutyinthefirstplace,andherselfsecond.Sheaffordedallthosetoughobligations,silently,withoutanypliant,hopingthatherpeoplewouldloveher,butitseemedthatthingsdon’tturnoutthewayshewant.Peoplemistookher,andevenwantedtogetridofher.Shefeltsadandsuffered.Unfortunately,whatshecoulddoisjustcrywhennooneelsecanseeanddryhereyesquicklyafterthat.
Inordertobethequeen,theelegant,brilliant,sobermindedqueen,shehasdevotedtoomuch-herchildhood,herrighttolaughandcryfreely,topursueanormallifewithoutsomuchpressure,andevenherwholelife.Itishardforamantodoso,butpleaserealizethatsheisjustawoman.Forthosereasons,wemustacknowledgethatsheisagreatwoman,andoneofthebestqueensintheworld.
