Research has shown that 85 percent of communication is nonverbal, so choosing what to wear to an interview is clearly an important part of your overall presentation. It won’t make up for weak answers, but it can communicate some positive things about your personality and what you might be like to work with.

Blue: You can’t go wrong with darker shades of blue, especially navy. Choosing from this powerful color will project an image of someone who is in control. From the interviewer’s point of view, the color blue suggests calm, stability, trust, truth, confidence and security. These are all great messages to send without saying a word.

Gray: After blue, gray is the second most popular color to wear for an interview. Like darker blue, it’s not a distracting color to the interviewer, which means they’ll be focused more on what you’re saying and how you’re saying it. Gray means sophistication(老成), so use it to your advantage.

Black: This is a commanding color and represents authority. Black also suggests excitement, so use it carefully when putting together your interview outfit. You may want to use it as an accent(着重色) —like in a scarf or tie, for instance—rather than as the primary color.

Red: This is an extremely powerful color. It’s so strong that you should only use it as an accent color. Reds are associated with energy, passion, desire, power and aggression. People think of intensity(紧张) and passion when they see the color red, so use it carefully or it could send the wrong message to the interviewer.

White: White shirts and blouses are always appropriate. It sends the message of simplicity, cleanliness, precision(精细) and goodness.

1. Why is it important to choose what to wear to an interview?

A. Because it will make up for your weak answers.

B. Because it suggests something about your personality.

C. Because it will make you feel better.

D. Because the interviewer judges a person by his appearance.

2. Based on the passage, which of the following are the messages from Blue?

stability energy power confidence security

A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C.①④⑤ D. ②③⑤

3. If you want to leave an impression of being simple and clean, you should be in _____.

A. gray B. red C. black D. white

4. From the passage we can infer that _______.

A. job interviewees should think twice before wearing red clothes.

B. the colors can send all the messages you want to convey.

C. you can wear white clothes if you want to appear active.

D. gray is the most popular color to wear for an interview.

Can exercise during childhood protect you against memory loss many decades later? Exercise early in life seems to have lifelong benefits for the brain,in rats at least.

"This is an animal study, but it shows that physical activity at a young age is very importantnot just for physical development, but for the whole lifelong track of cognitive(认知的)development during ageing,"says Martin Wojtowicz of the University of Toronto,Canada."In humans,it may delay the appearance of Alzheimer's symptoms(阿兹海默氏症),possibly to the point of preventing them."

Wojtowicz's team divided 80 young male rats into two equal groups, and placed running wheels in the cages of one group for a period of six weeks.Around four months later—when the rats had reached middle age—the team taught all the rats to connect an electric shock with being in a specific box. When placed in the box, they froze with fear.

Two weeks later, the team tested the rats in three situations: exactly the same box in the same room, the same box with the room arranged differently, and a completely different box in a different room.

The rats without access to a running wheel when they were young now froze the same percentage of times in each of these situations, suggesting they couldn't remember which one was dangerous. But those that had been able to run in their youth froze 40 to 50 percent less in both changed box settings.

The results suggest the amount of physical activity when we're young,at least for rats, has influence on brain and cognitive health—in the form of better memories—when we're older,"says Arthur Kramer of Northeastern University in Boston, who has found that,in humans, exercise promotes the growth of new brain cells.

5.The study shows that______.

A.physical activity is important for physical health

B.using the running wheels is of benefit to the rats' growth

C.physical activity can prevent human's Alzheimer's symptoms

D.the more exercise a rat has when young, the better memory it will possess when older

A.Exercise. B.Development. C.Benefit. D.Study.

The Boomerang Kids — young adults who leave to go to college, get married or just show off their independence — are moving back in with mom and dad. Boomerang Kids can be a mixed blessing for parents, both emotionally and financially.

Especially during hard economic times, adult children head for home. According to a survey, about 40 percent of 2017 graduates still live with their parents. Moreover, 42 percent of the 2015 graduates surveyed said they are still living at home.

The reasons are many, the first being economics. While the recession has touched Americans of all ages, it has been very hard for young adults. This has sent many kids back home. Plus, there is the matter of debt, especially college loans. For many recent graduates, it makes smart economic sense to move back in with their parents where life is comfortable and rent is either low or nonexistent. Then, of course, some return for personal reasons, such as recovering from a divorce or an illness.

Parents are often glad to help out, both emotionally and financially. As a result, the arrangement often works to everyone’s satisfaction. However, there are risks, especially for the parents. These include not only family tension and misunderstandings, but also money. The return to the family can become a financial burden that can affect the parents’ plans and their financial future, especially their retirement, as they try to do too much for their children.

9. Boomerang Kids are those who .

A. like to show off their independence

B. have problem with their marriage

C. graduate from college in advance

A. It is a tough choice for young adults to move back home.

B. Parents may have to deal with extra financial burden.

C. Children face fewer financial problems than ever.

D. Most graduates choose to live with their parents.

Elephants scored a big win in Dohar, Qatar, on March 22. People from 175 countries met in the Middle Eastern country. They voted to continue a ban on the sale of ivory(象牙). Two African nations, Tanzania and Zambia, had asked to open up the ivory trade.

People feared that weakening a 21-year-old ban on the sale of ivory would encourage illegal hunting and hurt elephant populations. African elephants once numbered in the millions. Today, there are fewer than 500,000.

People born in 100 years should be able to see an elephant, said Noah Wekesa, Kenya’s minister of forest and wildlife. His country voted to keep the ban.

In the 1980s, as many as 1 million elephants were killed throughout Africa. Hunters killed the animals for their ivory tusks, which were used to make jewelry and other things. The slaughter of elephants in Africa was terrible, says Paul Todd of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The group works to protect animals.

The ivory wars continued until 1989, when the United Nations voted to ban all trade in ivory. With trade controlled, demand for ivory fell. Governments punished hunters. Elephant populations began slowly to increase.

Tanzania and Zambia asked to allow ivory sales from government stockpiles(库存). Ivory is so expensive that it’s known as white gold. Tanzania holds almost 200,000 pounds of ivory, which is worth as much as 20 million. Zambia has 48,000 pounds of the white gold. The countries said they need the money the ivory would bring. They say it was taken from hunters or came from animals that died naturally.

Experts believe that trading ivory encourages illegal hunting. They felt happy about the decision which forbids the sales. This is a rare victory for elephants, said Jason Bell. He works to protect animals.

Bicycle Sharing

With the development of technology, bicycle sharing comes into people's lives. It becomes more and more popular and much news reported it. At the same time, we should see that there are some problems caused by bicycle sharing.

On one side, bicycle sharing makes it very convenient of people traveling. You can find a bicycle anywhere at any time when you want to go out for a cycling, and the price of one trip is very low. It can save time for people. On the other side, its management is not perfect. Even kids can open the lock and ride the bicycle, there is no doubt that such behavior is very dangerous. What's more, many people deliberately break it, like throw it to the river or destroy the code above it.

In my opinion, we should take a developing view about bicycle sharing. It is obviously helpful to human beings as a high-tech product. The government should introduce relevant provisions to regulate this market to avoid its disadvantages.

My Views on Bicycle-sharing

Presently, in big cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou, bicycle-sharing system has become increasingly popular. A large number of shared bikes can be found and rented at a low price. Moreover, you can park the bike almost anywhere you like. Urban transportation has thus been made much more convenient and even revolutionized.

However, along with its rapid development, bicycle-sharing system also brings some problems, including random parking, vandalism and possession of shared bikes, etc. To solve these problems, there are some measures for the authorities to take. Firstly, the government could implement more strict laws and rules to regulate the operation and management of bicycle-sharing system.Secondly, the public should raise their awareness of using shared bike reasonably. Lastly, urban transportation system should be upgraded and improved to accommodate automobiles, bikes and pedestrians.

To conclude, a sensible attitude should be held toward bicycle-sharing program. With effective and efficient measures taken, and efforts made by those involved, it can be expected that bicycle-sharing system will play a contributive and constructive role in urban public transportation.
