Online Reading
Introduction

The traditional education method is teachers teach students in the classroom. Students must to follow the teachers’ request. Furthermore, many students not satisfied the context contents, which preferred to autonomously study. Self-directed learning is born at that time. Compared to the conventional study pattern, self-directed learning integrates self-management (management of the context, including the social setting, resources, and actions with self-monitoring (the process whereby the learners monitor, evaluate and regulate their cognitive learning strategies (Bolhuis, 1996; Garrison, 1997. actions to improve self-directed learning are one instructional strategy to influence better E-learning (Chou, 2008. Self-directed e-learners are self-directed learners use internet to get more chance individual study.
Self-directed e-learners are not getting knowledge from the text like books, magazine and newspapers. Searching learning materials for them is not a complex course at all. Learners can use Google Scholar to find everything at home. Moreover with globalization and technology revolution, internet provides many kinds of self-directed learning resources. Lots of website supply self-directed learning games and activities to improve learners’ motivation. Except that learners can through browsing web pages, checking emails and chatting with friends keep in touch with others (Tseng, 2007; 2008. Consequently, during this process learners will enhance their four skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading. At that time, Reading online is considers as a good example for the integration between reading and self-directed e-learning.

Literature Review

Various articles only concerned about self-directed learning, self-directed e-learning and online reading. Few articles have make connection between online self-directed learning and reading. The article attempts to investigate the link between self-directed e-learning and on line reading. Learners can read the item get useful information from internet, and evaluate whether have controlled these knowledge. The most important thing is when learners’ grasp the skill of how to read via online self-directed materials, they will expand context contents.

Like Wolfe (2000 referred to important role of internet in learning compared to traditional teaching way. Internet needs higher request of learner to create links between fresh and old understanding. Learners can get large numbers of information

from internet. They have two options: reading text printed on paper and shown on computer screens. Bulik and Hanor (2000 suggested that the Web supports self-directed learning by both increasing learner control and providing mechanisms for learners to determine what information is pertinent to them. Hanna et al (2000 mentioned self-directed leaning is crucial to successful online reading. Merriam (2001 considered self-directed leaning is very important to adult, which is aim of adult education .Self-directed learning is still a procedure, which leads to successful learning.
Read (2001 in his program is conducted to suppose that everyone has their own learning style. The Definition of the factors for successful self-directed learning will help organizations to improve their staff’s efforts. This paper characteristic that self-directed learning became a form of learning strategy is very necessary. Self-directed learning is extremely vital for employees training and development extra organizational learning, which will help us to range the request support of organizational frameworks. The article talks about self-directed learning in business usage. No matter what kind of skills you want to pick up. If you have more enthusiasm to get knowledge, you will be more active. Lee. Hong and Ling (2002 believed that certain aspects of self-directed learning attribute, such as self-efficacy, were positively related to students attitude and achievement in online learning. Boyd (2004 claimed that recognizing online education and known as the feature of successful, which will help us to self-motivated, self-disciplined, and to feel relaxed in continuous self-directed learning.

With increasing globalization and the rise of the World Wide Web, online reading has become a major source of input for L2 readers. The internet has entered L2 classrooms faster than books, television, or any other forms of communication technologies (Coiro, 2005; Leu, 2002.Tseng (2007; 2008 declared that reading online considered as a good example of the integration between technology and

self-directed learning. Self-directed learners change traditional ways to read articles from text. Additionally, she tries to investigate whether EFL learners read on the internet, and what the EFL learners reading skills differences between read printed text and hypertext. This research though 45 fourth-grade Applied Foreign Languages major students in northern Taiwan as participants. They are divided into experimental and control groups with equal numbers. The experimental group students read using computer screen, the control group read printed text. When two group students finish reading 3 same articles, they will answer question requiring certain reading skills. The consequence demonstrates that control group students reading comprehension better than experimental group. Control group students read printed text show good performance to read through computer screen students. Results come out overthrow the position of online reading is catering for young adult. However, personality reasons will influent the learning style chooses.

Self-directed learning gives learners more chance to choose what they want to study. If they want to do better, they had better to clarify their aim and their work information and to get appropriate comments so that learners still require teacher’s supply to help their self-directed learning (Shabbir, 2008. By the way apply online reading and self-directed learning method to study not suits for everyone. Make clear what you want to get from the materials is very important. Like Chou & Chen, (2008 try to identify the effect of self-directed learning on academic success in web-based environments. This program analyzes six quantitative, which three cases are from Asia the other three occurred in the United States. Only one of the cases is not from a school setting. The research gathered pragmatic studies from different databases, including ERIC, Pro Quest Dissertation & Thesis (International, Professional Development Collection (Education, and Wilson Educational Abstract. The five quantitative approach case studies discussed in this paper all use the same instrument, for example Self-directed Learning Reading Scales (SDLRS to measure students self-directed learning .Only one case used another instrument as Oddi Continuing Learning Inventory (OCLI. Finally only case 3 southern university in US showed a

strongly positive relationship between self-directed learning and academic success in web-based environment. Although self-directed learning and academic performance in web-based environment have not obviously relationship, self-directed learning in web-based environment may still influent successful autonomous study.

Malik &shabbier (2008 stated throughout their survey how higher education students in their self-directed learning process with technology knowledge. The study has four focus groups. The group member comes from postgraduate and under graduate level in different department students. They apply numbers of in-depth and follow-up interviews. Getting 300 different departments postgraduate students combine to the sample of survey data. The conclusion of this research will help students pick suitable learning technologies. This study will guide teachers to increase students chance when they using technology during their self-directed learning procedure.
Huang (2009 try to investigate different online reading strategy especially choose which reading strategy can increase effort. In his study (2009 explored 1 identify patterns in the online reading strategies used by EFL learners 2investigate how strategy use affects reading comprehension and which strategies work best for EFL learners while reading English online. They selected thirty applied English major sophomore students and divided them into a high group and a low group two groups. The standard was depending on their English proficiency levels. The participants must read four authentic online texts, which two suit students’ proficient English, another two were more difficult. The results illustrate that the usage of support strategies contribute to other strategy use and supply in reading comprehension. However, the support strategies particular dependence cannot success calculate the increase in scores about main ideas and details when the students were reading more challenging texts. On the whole, the use of global strategies significantly contributed to better comprehension, especially for low proficiency students.

In sum, learn to read from online self-directed learning materials are possible. Learners can from self-directed learning websites test themselves. When they finish reading, they get the answer to check themselves. Like hot potato is a self-directed learning tool, which can help students improve reading skills. The contents include numerous thing related to reading, writing and speaking and listening. The estimate part will help you to correct the fault problem.

Implication & Recommendations

However, not all learners fit for self-directed learning materials. As I mentioned before, different learners have their own learning styles. Based on self-directed e-learning model, teachers need to guide learners’ use the self-directed learning materials evoke them passion to read article out of the classroom. L2 reading teachers need to know the web gather learning to read and reading to learn. Just like Bates (2000 said completely use autonomy and Internet to accomplish the extensive reading of electronic magazine articles, request students to train scanning skills, and familiar with find information and do research on topics online.

At the same time, the long distance students can through self-directed learning study reading at home. Parents lead their children to improve reading by self-directed activities and games.

Conclusion
Self-directed learning is very important to adult education. Self-directed e-learning as a new concept influences students reading style. Now students can read education context out of schools. Furthermore reading materials is not limit to printed text books. Learners can learn how to read form like blog or other self-directed learning website. In the past, teachers are not told you the read method, they even have not tell you how to separate different kinds of article. Learners must to find many books about reading skills. Controversially, learners can insert the key word get lots of information about reading. Self-directed learners can learn to read from independent materials.
