第一篇 Not a Small Problem
Mr. Ethan was a very large man. He had a loud voice and a bad temper. He was not giant(巨人,大力士), but he was much bigger than most men.
Life was not easy for Mr. Ethan. He could seldom find clothes big enough. His feet were too large for most shoes. In fact, wherever he went and whatever he did, Mr. Ethan had problems because of his size. These problems were so bad that Mr. Ethan stayed at home most of the time. Life was easier at home.
Then one day, a friend said, “you spend too much time at home. You should go out more. There ’s a good movie at the theater. ”
“I can’t sit in theater seats, ” Mr. Ethan said. “I’m too big. ”
“That is no problem,” his friend said, “I’ll buy you two tickets. You can get them at the theater when you go. ”
The friend sent money to the theater for two tickets. When the day came, Mr. Ethan put on his best clothes an went to the theater.
“You have two tickets for me, ” he said to the woman in the ticket office. “My name is Ethan. ”
“Oh, yes, Mr Ethan, ” the woman said. “Here you are, seats G4 and P12. I’m sorry, you and your friend can’t sit together because we are very full this evening.”
Poor Mr. Ethan. He smiled sadly, walked out of the theater and went home.
第二篇 What a Nightmare
Sometimes when a day starts off badly, it just keeps getting worse and wores as each hour passes. On days like this there is nothing to do but relax and know the next day will be better.
Stone had a terrible day. His clock didn’t work and he got up late. He missed the train to work . Moreover, he had to wait a long time for the next train. As a matter of fact, he waited for more than two hours. To make matters worse, he left his briefcase on the train. As a result, he had to go to the police station. Poor Stone never got to work that day. What a nightmare!
Try describing your own idea of a “nightmare ” day. It shouldn’t be hard. Everyone has days when they just seen to get up on the wrong side of bed!
第三篇 Whether Students should Take Physical Exercise

I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve had about whether students of Senior 3 should take physical exercise. 55% of the students think they should take exercise every day, such as doing morning exercises, playing ping-pong and basketball, but it shouldn’t take up too much time. Proper exercise can build up one’s body and reduce diseases. What’s more, sports let their brains have a rest so that they can study effectively.
On the other hand, 45% believe taking exercise is a waste of time and it is tiring. After having sports, they are much too excited for a long time to pay attention to their lessons. It’s also possible get hurt in sports.

Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve had about whether it is necessary for middle school students to carry mobile phones to school.
The majority of the students think that it is more convenient for them to keep in touch with their parents and classmates if they have a mobile phone. And what’s more, it’s the latest fashion.
However, most teachers think middle school students are not old enough to control themselves. It is a waste of time for students to play games and send messages to each other by mobile phone. And it’s easy to cause the students to vie with each other. If necessary, they can make phone calls by using public phones on the campus.
In my opinion, following the fashion is understandable. But as middle school students, we should put all our heart into our studies.

第六篇 Treasure Your Opportunities
The air we breathe is so freely available that we take it for granted. Yet without it we could not survive more than a few minutes. For the most part, the same air is available to everyone, and everyone needs it. Some people use the air to sustain(支撑)them while they sit around and feel sorry for themselves. Others breathe in the air and use the energy it provides to make a magnificent life for themselves.
Opportunity is the same way. It is everywhere. Opportunity is so freely available that we take we take it for granted. Yet opportunity alone is not enough to create success. Opportunity must be seized and acted upon in order to have value.So many people are so anxious to “get in” on a “ground floor opportunity”, as if the opportunity will do all the work. That’s impossible.
Just as you need air to breathe, you need opportunity to succeed. It takes more than just breathing in the fresh air of opportunity, however. You must make use of that opportunity. That’s not up to the opportunity. That’s up to you. It doesn’t matter what “floor” the opportunity is on. What matters is what you do with it.

The American concept of love and romance begins with dating. Young people date in several ways. At first they might have group dates with several boys and girls together. Later, they start going on single dates- just one boy and one girl. Sometimes a boy and a girl will go to a movie.Maybe they will go to a party at a friend’s house. Or they might go out to eat.
When two couples go out together, we call it double dating. A friend might even arrange a blind date for you with someone you don’t know. That doesn’t mean you keep your eyes closed the whole evening! You just don’t know who your partner will be until the time for the date. If someone asks you for any kind of date, and you don’t want to go, you may politely say, “No, thanks.”

As a result, they have to stay at home to earn money to support their families.
