Etiquette for Business Dressing

Dressing appropriately, standing and sitting in the right place at the right time, good pose and looking physically presentable are all elements in making a good impression.

In the business field, especially when clients are present, unprofessional clothes like jeans, shorts and T-shirts are not proper clothes.

By dressing-up for an occasion, you express your respect not only for the occasion, but also for the other guests, the surroundings, and especially the host or hostess.

Business Attire

Business suit and tie are appropriate in all major events. Wear dark colored business suits in classic colors of gray. For an important formal meeting, choose a white dress shirt, for less formal a light blue shirt will still give you a conservative appearance.

In a formal commercial occasion, dressing for business people should focus on “conservativeness ”. The standard dressing for them is uits, suit dresses or uniforms.  

Businessmen should wear dark blue or black business suit outside and white shirt inside withdark socks and black leather shoes.

The best dressing for business women is single-colored suit dresses. Women should wear a suit or dress with jacket in major cities. Wearing classic clothing and classic colors of navy, gray, ivory, and white will ensure you give a confident and conservative appearance.

Be aware of the difference between business formal, business casual.

For business formal, only suits with shirts and tie are appropriate.

For business casual, you do not have to wear a tie but must have long sleeve shirt and pant suit,

Tips:

Normally you should try not to choose dark-colored shirts for business formal because they are difficult to match with suits.

When seating you can unbutton your suits and remember to button them again as soon as you stand up.

Jeans are not appropriate in the office.

In business settings, standard attire for men includes a dark suit, white shirt, and conservative tie.

 Women typically wear very conservative skirt and blouse combinations or business dresses.

Sleeveless tops and miniskirts are considered unprofessional in most business settings.

Business Dressing DOs and DON’Ts

Do Not wear short-sleeved shirts . Showing a clean cuff is a must.

Do Not wear ankle socks or light colored socks with a dark suit.
