Could the grades encourage students to learn?

The answer to whether grades could impel or not students to learn may vary from person to person. When it comes to examination scores, students who care more about marks and are optimistic tend to emphasize the motivation of the grades, while other students who are always pessimistic and weak in examinations stress oppositely that marks often make them depressed. But in my opinion, the scores could both motivate students to learn harder and discourage their interest in studying. And, it is the attitude that decides whether the effect of grades is positive or negative.

High score is not only a success in school but also an essential to make some students available to famous universities and scholarship. In addition, without exam and scores, never would they had realized what they had learnt and how well they performed as they argue. As a result, these pupils are urged to study harder under the incentive mechanism of scores so as to get a reward or check themselves.

However, bad performance in exams may stimulate some pupils negatively. They might feel frustrated if they get poor score and some of them even absorbed in the failure without help from others.

Fortunately, the change of attitudes towards scores can teach us students how to make full use of the advantages of this mechanism and to decrease bad effects. Its wise for us to take the grades as a result of hard work and to make some change in study method when we perform poorly in exams.

In conclusion, I believe that by the approach of modifying attitudes, we may get more encouragement and less discouragement from the grades.
