School lunch is an important meal in the middle of the school day. It gives you energy for your body and mind. A healthy school lunch should contain vegetables, fruits, whole grains (全麦) and food with things like meat or eggs, according to US Department of Agriculture.

In China, students usually have a lunch break for one and a half to two hours. Some students have lunch at school cafeterias. They can have vegetables, meat, rice or noodles. Others like buying their lunch outside school or go home to eat with their family.

However, students in other countries eat differently. Let’s take a look!

Most US middle school students have lunch at school cafeterias. Their lunchtime is short –about an hour. Therefore, a simple lunch like a sandwich is quick and convenient. In the past, many US schools served food like French fries and hot dogs. But they are high in fat. Nowadays, healthy fresh vegetables, whole-grain bread and low-fat milk show on the US school menu.

In Japan, middle school students all eat together in their classrooms instead of a cafeteria. The meals are balanced with rice, vegetables, fish and soup. High school students can bring packed lunches or a bento (便当) to school. It is a tradition for mothers to prepare bento with vegetables in different colors and fun shapes such as a little rabbit.

In France, students can get lunch at school or go home. The lunch break is one to two hours long. French students are taught to take time to enjoy their meals. A school lunch in France is rich and big. It is usually made up of an appetizer (开胃菜), salad, main course (meat, fish or eggs), cheese plate and dessert .

British children cannot go outside during their 45-minute lunchtime. They can either have their lunch in the school cafeteria or bring their own lunchbox. Fresh vegetables and fruit are a must on the menu. A healthy lunch also includes pasta(意大利面) and bread.

Most middle school students in Singapore have their lunch in school cafeterias. A typical lunch includes spaghetti, a salad, fish and soup. Snacks are usually served between meals. They can be fruit, homemade bread, natural beans and barley(大麦).

Square dancing has become more and more popular. It’s very good for old people’s health. However, in many cities, most people think square dancing is too noisy and they want to stop this activity.

I have my own opinion about this problem. My grandmother likes square dancing very much, so she often goes to the big square to dance right after dinner. Her body becomes stronger and healthier. She also becomes very optimistic and makes a lot of new friends.

But I can always see a lot of people cover their ears when they go through the big square. In my school, my friends say that they can’t even have a comfortable sleep or do their homework because of the loud and noisy music.

I think square dancing is a healthy way to relax, for either old people or youth. Of course, people can have this activity, but they should obey some rules. First, pay attention to the time. When it’s too late and everyone is going to sleep, just stop dancing and go home. Second, do not make the noise too loud. A peaceful environment is suitable for students to study and good for workers when they are off duty. And the most important rule is not to dance near a schoolor a company. It will make a loud noise!

Books and papers were spread (铺开) out all over the room and little Tommy was hard at work. His mother was surprised. Chris is not a traditional explorer(探险者)- he usually works in an office for a large organization. Yet his job can sometimes be just as exciting and dangerous as being an explorer.
Chris works for MSF, an organization also known as Doctors Without Borders (无国界医生). MSF sends trained doctors all over the world to help people after a war or a disaster. Chris is a doctor from France who has travelled to many places to organize programmes that help people.
At the moment, there are over 27,000 trained medical staff taking part in MSF projects and tasks. The organization received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. All kinds of doctors can volunteer for MSF. They need to be prepared to go almost anywhere in the world and, of course, they should expect difficult conditions. Doctors with experience in tropical(热带的)diseases are especially useful because most of MSFs work is in Africa. When MSF accepts a doctor for a task, he has to go for at least six months. When doctors have completed a few tasks, they might be sent on an emergency task following a disaster, such as an earthquake.
But why would a doctor leave a comfortable life and a good salary to join MSF? According to Chris, the experience you gain is a great help in your career. Besides, just like the explorers of the past, you need to keep an open mind and learn to mix well with the people you meet. Most importantly, at the end of each task, you have made a real difference to people’s lives.
