The cold wind cut through my enthusiasm (热情）as a tourist in Washington D. C. , so Ientered the nearest restaurant for warmth. I ordered a coffee, and began observing people.

Humor promotes our attention and energy. We know that all good lecturers share many

Humor promotes communication at the workplace. It provides a non-threatening medium through which an employee or employer can communicate with others. Most people don't realize it , but cell phones are becoming a huge contribution to pollution on our planet right how. The average American gets a new mobile phone at least every 18 to 24 months. Thus you may buy 34 phones in all during your lifetime if you get your first phone starting at the age of 18，and there are many kids who have them even younger.

As part of Our "throwaway" society, along with our endless desire for new cell phones, it is estimated (估计）that over 125 million cell phones are thrown away every year. Knowing that the landfill doesn't have to be the end point of your cell phone can greatly reduce the amount of unnecessary waste produced each year.

The reason why cell phone recycling is important is that they contain some pretty toxic (有毒) stuff. But they also contain some non-toxic materials that can be recycled and used again. Yet in reality , we pollute the earth even more by trying to produce these components over again from our limited natural resources.

Unfortunately, no landfill is 100% safe. It is the toxins that come from these toxic materials into the ground which pollute our drinkable water supply and affect our health. Currently, less than 1% of the entire earth's water is drinkable, so we must take steps to protect it.

So, before you decide to throw away your old cell phone in exchange for a new one ’ think for a moment if you really need it or is it because you want the coolest new style? If your older
model is still working fine, do you really need to buy a new one?

Think about where your cell phone will end up. That it disappears from your sight as it heads for the landfill doesn't mean its influences stop there.

As a teacher, a favorite question continually asked by my students is “ Which is better, American or British English?，，My answer is always the same, “It depends！” These days, we can also add the Australian variety. Where I live， learners use more Australian English than in other parts of the world and are more likely to study there than in the US or the UK. But the difference between Australian and British English is very small and mainly vocabulary based.

Certainly in academic terms.(学术术语）we would be expected to choose one type of English over another for consistency ( 一致性），and a school course will favor a particular standard，whatever that may be. With so many varieties of English，course book writers and publishers meet with a conundrum，as there has to be a particular standard of English which should be followed throughout the book. So what factors can influence whether foreign learners are better off learning a particular standard of English? Simply speaking, not including any demands that the course might make, it depends on what is more suitable, considering their current and future academic needs, employment or social needs and their geographical location.

If someone is working for a US owned company or one whose clients (客户)are mainly American, then the company will probably require American English in its written communication. Similarly if you are studying to be a tour guide in an area frequently visited by British tourists, it makes sense to concentrate on that standard. If a learner is going to study in Australia, then familiarizing themselves with Australian English beforehand is going to benefit them in the long run.
