Blackbones Saves the School
It was the first day of term at Abbey Park School. Class 4 sat in neat rows.一排排整齐的

Class 4 gasped 倒吸了一口气as he pulled out his sword- and used it to sharpen a pencil.
He pointed at Yasmin.
‘You, matey哥们, what lesson is it?’
‘Please Captain报告船长, geography.’
Blackbones stroked his beard摸了摸胡子.
‘Ge-og-ruffy. Never heard of it. We’ll start with Art.’
Lessons began. They painted a skull and crossbones 骷髅旗on the classroom door. With their rulers, they practiced sword fighting.拼剑
Blackbones winked眨了眨眼睛. ‘Now you looks like proper pirates正经的海盗. Let’s sail for the sea.起航出海’
‘The sea’s miles away离这儿好几英里,’ said Adrian.
‘And Miss Lupin doesn’t let us go on trips出游,’ said Yasmin.
Tara had an idea.
‘What about the school swimming pool?’

Miss Lupin was in the swimming pool with Class 3 when the door burst open突然撞开了.

All of a sudden 突然Miss Lupin’s whistle split the air哨音划破空气. Most of Class 3 were up on the diving board跳板. The pirates were about to正要 make them walk the plank走踏板.
Blackbones pointed to his class. ‘Rattle me cutlass刷拉拉响起我的弯刀, Miss Lupin. Did I teach ‘em well or not?’
Miss Lupin turned to him with a face as black as thunder阴沉着脸.
‘Get those children down this minute!立刻把孩子们弄下来’ she ordered. ‘And you, Captain, I want to see you in my office right away马上.’
Blackbones spent all afternoon in Miss Lupin’s office. When he came back he threw his hat on the door.
‘Barnacles真倒霉!’ he muttered嘟囔道.
Tara and Yasmin had waited behind to see him. ‘What happened? What did Miss Lupin say?’ they asked.
‘I’ve got to go, shipmates船员兄弟们,’ said Blackbones sadly.
‘You mean Miss Lupin has sacked解雇 you? After only one day?’
The girls couldn’t believe it.
Blackbones sighed. ‘I guess I’m no use as a teacher.我不是做老师的料’ ‘You’re the best teacher we’ve ever had,我们从没有过这么好的老师’ said Yasmin.
Blackbones put on his hat.
‘Kind of you to say so谢谢你好心这么说, maties. But I’ve got to go by the end of the week, right after school fair.在学校游艺会结束后’
Tara and Yasmin walked away sadly. If only 如果...就好了they hadn’t fought Class 3 跟3班打仗in the swimming pool. Now Blackbones was going要走了. And they would never get a teacher like him again.
As they passed Miss Lupin’s office they heard voices inside, ‘We need 10,000 pounds-and that just to mend修理 the roof!’ sighed Miss Lupin..
‘This school was started创办 by my Great Aunt Amelia. It’s been here two hundred years. Now I’ll have to close it down.关闭’
‘Maybe the school fair will go well办得好 this year?’ said Miss Punter, the games teacher体育老师.
Miss Lupin shook her head摇了摇头. ‘It will take a miracle to 需要出现奇迹才能make 10,000 pounds.’

All they needed was a way to make 10,000 pounds at the school fair. The school would be saved得救了. And Miss Lupin would be so pleased, she would give Blackbones back his job把工作还给.
‘We could sell cakes. I can make them in cookery厨房,’ said Fiona.
‘Your cakes are like lumps of rock石块.’ said Mungo.
‘Let’s kidnap绑架 Miss Lupin. We could demand索要 10,000 pounds to set her free释放他,’ said Adrian.
But no one could see anyone paying 10p十便士 for Miss Lupin, let alone更不用说 10,000.
Blackbones looked up. He was mending the hole in his sock补.他袜子上的窟窿

Tara jumped up and clapped her hands鼓掌.
‘That’s it! A treasure hunt寻宝. Great idea, Captain!’
‘But we haven’t got any treasure,’ Yasmin said.
‘We don’t need any. We’ll just sell lots of maps. Each map will show the treasure in a different place. That’ll keep people digging all day让人挖一天,’ said Tara.
The day of school fair arrived.
Miss Lupin greeted和众人打招呼 the crowds. She hoped they would spend lots of money.
‘But we’ll never make 10,000p,’ she sighed. ‘I’ll have to close the old school down. What would Great Aunt Amelia say?’
She passed the stall run by Class 4四班经营的摊位.
Captain Blackbones was standing on a box. ‘Find the buried埋葬的 treasure!’ he was shouting. ‘Have a go试一把, matey! Buy a map and dig for pirate gold挖海盗的金子!’
‘What a good idea!’ said an old lady. ‘You look just like a real pirate.’
Adrian and Yasmin were selling treasure maps. On every map was a skull and crossbones. An X marked where the treasure was. Blackbones had drawn the maps himself and they were selling like hot cakes就像刚出炉的蛋糕一样热销.
‘I thought I told you to forget about pirates,’ said Miss Lupin crossly生气滴.
‘It’s a pirate treasure hunt寻找海盗宝藏的游戏,’ said Tara. ‘It was the Captain’s idea.’
Miss Lupin glared at 瞪了一眼Blackbones.
‘Buried treasure! Stuff and nonsense简直胡说八道! The sooner you’re out of this school the better.越早越好’
But the treasure hunt was the start of the fair游艺会的明星游戏. Everywhere Miss Lupin went she saw people puzzling over正琢磨 treasure maps. It was only later 过了一会才they began digging.
Mr. Bliss, the music teacher, came running up跑过来. ‘Miss Lupin```it’s the games field操场,’ he panted气喘吁吁的说. ‘ Come and look.’
Miss Lupin went with him. The game field had gone不见了. In every corner在各个角落 people were digging for buried treasure.
It was the same story on the front lawn学校前面的草坪上情况也一样. Dads with pick axes爸爸们手拿丁字镐 had started on the car park. Some were even taking up掀开 the floor in the school hall.
Miss Lupin sat down on the grass. She felt ill觉得难受. Her school looked as if it had been bombed好像被轰炸过一样.
‘Excuse me,’ said a man with a spade铁锹. ‘Would you mind moving? I want to dig for treasure there.’
Miss Lupin went to look for Blackbones.
She found him counting out money.
‘Rattle me cutlass! We made over 100p!’
He showed her the money. But Miss Lupin’s face had gone purple.
‘Loook what you’ve done to my school! It’s ruined毁了! Ruined!’
She swung 抡起her handbag. Blackbones dodged一躲. He wasn’t used to不习惯 fighting hopping mad headteachers暴跳如雷的校长.
Just then, Miss Punter the game teacher came running up. Her face was caked in dirt 沾满泥土and she was holding a silver box.
‘Miss Lupin, look, I found it! The buried treasure!’ she cried.
‘But there wasn’t any```’ Yasmin started to say. Tara tried to shut her up.
Miss Punter opened the silver box. Everyone gasped. Inside were sparkling闪闪发光的 jewels珠宝 and necklaces.
‘The treasure map led me straight to 把我直接带到them,’ said Miss Punter. ‘ Just as it said, X marked the spot地点.’
Miss Lupin read the name inside the silver box. ‘Great Aunt Amelia! These are her jewels! I always knew she’d hidden them somewhere.’
She turned to Blackbones.
‘You clever, clever man. But how did you know where they were?’
For a moment Blackbones was lost for words不知道说什么好. Then he gave Miss Lupin a wink. ‘I felt it in me bones凭直觉,’ he said.
The school was saved. The money from the jewels paid for all the repairs支付了所有的修理费. Miss Lupin had the roof mended. Miss Punter got a new games field.
And as for Blackbones, the pirate teacher, Miss Lupin gave him a new job teaching the children to sail.
This week he took all of Class 4 out in a boat called Salty Sal. They were last seen最后一次看见他们的时候 heading out 出发to sea with the skull and crossbones flying from the mast桅杆.
Blackbones was at the wheel掌舵, the sea breeze in his hair and a treasure map in his hand. Who knows when they will be back?
