　　吉鸿昌的爱国故事

　　1895年10月18日出生于河南省扶沟县吕潭镇一个贫苦农民家庭。受父亲影响，吉鸿昌幼年即具有爱国思想。1913年秋天，不满18岁的吉鸿昌弃学从戎，投入冯玉祥部当兵。他因吃苦耐劳、智勇正直被冯赏识，提升为手枪连连长，不久又提升为营长。当外国人都在歧视中国人的时候，吉鸿昌在自己胸前挂上”我是中国人”的牌子，真可谓是爱国名将。

　　1931年9月21日，矢志抗日的吉鸿昌将军被蒋介石逼迫下野，到国外”考察实业”.船到美国，吉鸿昌就接二连三地遭到意想不到的刺激，如那里的头等旅馆不接待中国人，却对日本人奉若神明。有一次，吉鸿昌要往国内邮寄衣物，邮局职员竟说世界上已经不存在中国了，吉鸿昌异常愤怒，刚要发作，陪同的使馆参赞劝道：”你为什么不说自己是日本人呢只要说自己是日本人就可受到礼遇。”吉鸿昌当即怒斥：”你觉得当中国人丢脸吗，可我觉得当中国人光荣！”为抗议帝国主义者对中国人的歧视，维护民族尊严，他找来一块木牌，用英文仔细地在上面写上：”我是中国人！”
