古代中国人认为面条意味着长长的寿命和长长的运气，因此传统的生日宴不可或缺的就是一碗“长寿面”。在生日宴会中，来宾品尝面条，同时也分享好运。

Ancient Chinese thought long-long noodle means long-long life with long-long luck. So tradition has been followed up to now and noodle would be taken on birthday dinner. Today, people on traditional Chinese birthday party would take the noodle and wish to share the birthday person's good luck and good life.

在传统观念中，桃是长寿果。因为古代桃子在一定的季节才有，所以民间庆祝生日时，有时也会用面粉制作成桃子，以求好运。

In traditional Chinese culture, peach has been regarded as a fruit meaning long-life. But peach would be not available in some seasons, so "peaches on birthday party" actually are made in flour and steamed in shapes of peach.

婴儿出生满一年的第一个生日非常重要，传统的家庭会举办一个重要的仪式，名为“抓周”。摆上印章、经书、笔、墨、纸、砚、算盘、钱币、帐册等物品。由大人将小孩抱来，令其端坐，任其挑选，看其先抓何物，后抓何物。以此来测卜其志趣、前途和将要从事的职业。如果先抓了文具，则长大以后好学，必有一手锦绣文章；如是女孩先抓剪、尺之类的缝纫用具或铲子、勺子之类的炊事用具，则长大善于料理家务。抓周是一种长辈们对小孩前途寄予厚望的方式。

It's very important for the 1st birthday for 1 year old baby, and on the traditional party for 1 year birthday , a ceremony called as "draw lots" will be performed. Pen, book, money, tools, scissor, dinnerware etc. would be present to birthday baby to choose. The future work will be predicted depending on what chosen by baby.

If book is chosen, the baby will become a great scholar. If tool is chosen, the baby will become a great engineer. If dinnerware is chosen, the baby will have always good food throughout his life.

Of course, It's just a custom and a manner by which parents place hope on kid's future.
