Step 1

Look at the three illustrations carefully, and answer the

questions.

(1) What is happening in each picture?

(2) Have you ever done any of these things?

(3) What would happen if everybody did the same things?

创设情境，引导学生基于已有知识，简单表达出图中行为的后果，引入本课主题，激发思考，铺垫语言。

Step 2

1. Read Paragraph 1 and answer the questions.

(1) What is “Just-me-ism”?

(2) Why is it a problem?

(3) Do you have any suggestions for solving the problem?

2. Read Paragraph 2&3 and find the basic information about Roots & Shoots. Complete the table about the organization.

3. Work in pairs to retell the establishment of Roots & Shoots.

1. Read paragraph 4 and paraphrase the two quotes from Dr. Jane Goodall?

2. Read the whole text again. Answer the questions.

(1) What contribution does Roots & Shoots make to

society?

(2) What makes Dr. Jane Goodall think Roots &Shoots can

solve the problem of "Just-me-ism”?

引导学生进一步了解珍·古道尔教授创建该环保组织的目的及该环保组织的贡献和价值。同时内化运用语言。

3. 梳理说明文的文本结构, 找出并赏析说明文的写作特点和语言特点。

Step 4

Read the text and focus on the techniques the writer used.

(1) Find examples of the techniques used in the text such

as examples, repetition, quotations and a colloquial

style.

(2) Explain why the writer used the techniques.

(3) Explain the parallel structures in the text. Think about

what effects they achieved and then share the ideas

with the class.

引导学生基于对文章的理解和对文本特征的分析，找出文章语言的主要特点并判断作者的写作意图。

4. 获取“根与芽”环保组织更多的信息。

Step 5

1. Suggest another title for the text.

2. Read the full story about "Roots & Shoots and know more about the origin and the development of the organization.

3. Guide students to talk about what we can do to make our world a better place for people, other animals and the environment we share.

进一步巩固学生对“根与芽”环保组织的理解，并通过补充材料了解该组织的发展现状。启发学生认识到在生活中每个人都会对环境产生影响， 在环保方面的点滴努力能够汇聚成改变世界的巨大力量，并号召学生行动起来，参与到环保的行动中。

presentation to introduce Roots & Shoots with the following information.

2. The meaning of its name

3. The contribution it makes to society
