During all the time I never stopped thinking about escape(逃离). When I traveled across to the other side of the island, I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, “Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day.”
So I decided to make myself a boat. I cut down a big tree, and then began to make a long hole in it. It was hard work, but about six months later, I had a very fine canoe (独木舟). When I was about 12, I had an “enemy”, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings(缺点）Sometimes she said I was thin. Sometimes she said I was lazy. There are several ways you can find out about the countries and places you wish to visit.
You can talk to friends who have travelled to the places, you can go and see a colour film（宣传片）about them, or you can read a travel book.
It seems that there are three kinds of travel books. The first are those that give a personal, subjective(主观的) idea of travels which their writer has got himself. In classroom, your teachers will talk about topics that you are studying. The information they provide will be important for you to know when you take tests. So you must be able to take good written notes from what your teachers say.
