基于语料库的《道德经》英译本的显化和简化特征研究自正权

【摘要】： 本文旨在用语料库的方法研究《道德经》英译本的翻译共性的两个特征,即显化和简化特征。迄今为止,英汉／汉英之间的翻译共性的研究主要集中在现当代语言之间翻译文本和原语文本,很少探究古代典籍翻译中的翻译共性表现,翻译共性的假设在古代典籍英译本中是否依然存在尚未得到系统证实。因此,本文试图在语料库基础上进行典籍英译本的有关翻译共性的尝试性研究。本文选取20个全译本,建立了《道德经》英译本语料库,同时还从众多英语经典原著中选取了10部著作,其中每部取样3万余字建立了可比语料库,另外还从众多其它语言译入英语的经典著作中选取10经典作品,每部取样3万余字,建立参照语料库。为研究需要,每个语料库均用CLAWS 5进行了词性标注。 在对显化的研究中,本文在三个语料库中分别考察引述动词SAY, SEE, MEAN和THINK后that的使用频率,同时还考察了WILL、BE和HAVE在人称代词I, you, she, he, we和they后与这些人称代词的缩写和全写情况。研究发现,《道德经》语料库中这些引述动词后的that使用频率比其它两个语料库都更高,WILL、BE和HAVE在这些人称代词后的全写频率比其它两个语料库更高。 在对简化的研究中,本文在三个语料库中分别考察了标准类符／形符比、词汇密度和平均句子长度。考察发现,《道德经》语料库的标准类符／形符比和词汇密度都比另外两个语料库都高,但平均句子长度比另外两个语料库都低。参照语料库的类符／形符比也比英语原语语料库略高,但词汇密度和平均句长都比后者低。 本文认为,翻译显化特征在《道德经》英译本中表现突出,但简化特征不明显。造成《道德经》翻译简化假设检验结果不明显的原因有以下两方面：一是《道德经》原文的特殊性,由于古汉语中实词远比虚词多,间接导致翻译文本中实词比的比例比虚词多,所以词汇密度相应更高；二是语料库规模的影响,由于在一定时期单词类型不会随着文章总词汇数量的增加而相应增加,导致文本越长类符／形符比降低。这就要求对汉语典籍英译本的翻译简化特征的研究还需要多的考察手段,需要更丰富的研究方法。
